Denny Hamlin favored for third Cup Series win of the season at Martinsville

The 2024 NASCAR Cup Series is at the Martinsville Speedway circuit this weekend for the Cook Out 400. Denny Hamlin is the betting favorite to win, and in our latest NASCAR betting picks, we tell you how the winner of last weekend’s race from Richmond will get on.

  • What: Cook Out 400
  • Where: Martinsville Speedway, Virginia
  • When: Sunday, April 7th, 2024
  • Time: 3 pm ET
  • Laps: 210.4 Miles
  • Distance: 400 Miles

Yes, Denny Hamlin is the in-form driver in NASCAR, with two wins in his last three races. The Joe Gibbs Racing driver has won the Food City 500 and the Toyota Owners 400 in recent weeks, and he will be looking to keep that hot streak of form going this weekend in his home state of Virginia.

A couple of people who will be looking to derail Hamlin in Virginia will be Cup Series Championship leader Martin Truex Jr. and the man who split Hamlin’s two wins, William Byron.

Who is the favorite to win the 2024 Cook Out 400?

Denny Hamlin is the +400 favorite to win the 2024 Cook Out 400 from Martinsville Speedway. Hamlin’s Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Martin Truex Jr. is his closest betting rival at +650. Despite topping the points table, Truex Jr. is yet to win a Cup Series race this season.

He will be hoping to right that wrong this weekend and send a strong message to his teammate.

Third in the betting this weekend is Christopher Bell at +700. Bell is followed by Kyle Larson and Ryan Blaney at +900, with Joey Logano and William Byron both at +1100.

Outside of the leading candidates to win the race is Ty Gibbs at +1200. The grandson of team owner Joe Gibbs is having a great season and has to be considered for any race at the moment.

Gibbs sits ahead of Brad Keselowski (+1600), Chase Elliott (+1800), Chase Briscoe, and Chris Buescher (both at +2000).

Cook Out 400 NASCAR Betting Picks and Predictions

Onto our betting picks, and thankfully NASCAR is nothing like Formula 1, where it is a closed shop with Max Verstappen winning every week. And with every race a far more open contest, we also have the chance to hedge our bets in the NASCAR Cup Series.

Despite being the in-form driver, we are giving Denny Hamlin a miss this weekend. Instead, we are looking at two of his Joe Gibbs Racing teammates.

Ty Gibbs +1200

The first driver we are picking to win this weekend is Ty Gibbs. The 21-year-old has had a great start to the season, with five top-10 finishes in his first seven starts. He led for the most laps in the non-points season-opening Clash at the Coliseum race and for 137 laps of the Food City 500 in Bristol, eventually won by Denny Hamlin.

Gibbs is fourth in the current championship following his third-place finishes in Austin and Phoenix, along with a fifth place in Las Vegas. A Cup Series win looks just around the corner. And regardless of whether he wins or not, one thing for sure is Gibbs will give us a run for our money.

Ty Gibbs to win the Cook Open 400 is our first betting pick.

Martin Truex Jr. +650

Plenty seem cool on the prospects of Martin Truex Jr. winning this weekend. Okay, we get it. He has no wins yet this season, and in his last four outings at Martinsville, he has been outside of the top ten on three occasions.

But he does have a decent record here in previous years. He’s won three times previously, and although the wins were between 2019 and 2021, it’s not a lifetime ago. The 2017 Cup Series winner has been in contention this year, and like Ty Gibbs, he will be hungry for his first race win of the season.

Martin Truex Jr. to win the 2024 Cook Out 400 is our second NASCAR betting pick.
