Back Hendrick Motorsports for another win at Darlington in the Goodyear 400

There is a tight two-way split in the betting to win the Goodyear 400 as the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series heads to Darlington for this weekend’s race. The bookmakers are struggling to split Kyle Larson and Denny Hamlin. But only one can win, and we tell you who in our latest NASCAR betting picks.

  • What: Goodyear 400
  • Where: Darlington Raceway, Darlington, South Carolina
  • When: Sunday, May 12th, 2024
  • Time: 3 pm ET
  • Laps: 293
  • Distance: 400 Miles

The Big Picture

After wins in Dover and Kansas for Denny Hamlin and Kyle Larson, the duo leads the betting to win in Darlington this Sunday.

Kyle Larson is the man really in form. The Hendrick Motorsports driver was second to Hamlin at the Wurth 400, and he followed that up with a remarkable win in Kansas at the AdventHealth 400 last weekend.

The two podium finishes have seen Larson extend his lead at the top of the points table. Larson now has 467 points and is 29 ahead of Martin Truex Jr. in second place on 428. Truex Jr. has bounced back to form in the last two races with a third-place finish at Dover and a fourth-place at Kansas last Sunday.

This weekend’s race is on the 1.36-mile egg-shaped oval track at Darlington Speedway. Nicknamed ‘The Lady in Black’ or the ‘Track Too Tough To Tame,’ Darlington will test the drivers with its unique layout consisting of one corner that’s tighter and more steeply banked than the others. A turn that is bound to catch some of the drivers out.

Betting to win the 2024 Goodyear 400

As we’ve seen in recent races held on oval tracks, Kyle Larson is a popular choice with the top auto racing betting sites.
Larson won at this circuit the last time the Cup Series was held here in the Southern 500 in September 2023. His win also meant that Rick Hendrick’s drivers swept Darlington in 2023, showing how well-suited the Chevrolet car is to this circuit.

Kyle Larson is +400 to win the Goodyear 400. Larson is marginally ahead of Denny Hamlin, who is second in the betting at +425.

Hamlin led the Southern 500 for 177 laps in September, and his recent win at Dover confirms the JGR driver is in good form. He can’t be discounted this weekend.

Third in the betting is Martin Truex Jr. at +625. He is followed by Tyler Reddick (+700), William Byron (+800), and Christopher Bell (+1000).

Ross Chastain is +1400, with Chase Elliott, Kyle Busch, and Brad Keselowski all on +1600, and Ty Gibbs at +2000.

Betting to win the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series Championship

Before we get onto our betting picks to win the Goodyear 400, let’s first look at the latest betting to win the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series.

BetUS now has Kyle Larson as their outright favorite to win his second championship at +400. Larson had previously been involved in a three-way tie with William Byron and Denny Hamlin but is now out on his own in the lead.

Joint-second in the betting at +500 are William Byron and Denny Hamlin. The duo is followed by Christopher Bell at +800 and Chase Elliott and Martin True Jr. at +900. Current Cup Series champion Ryan Blaney is still out at +1200.

2024 Goodyear 400 Betting Picks and Predictions

The first bet we’re going for this weekend is a bit of a sleeper. Chase Elliott doesn’t have a great record at this circuit. In fact, it’s awful. Elliott has zero wins from 14 starts.

But in his last few races this season, he has shown that he is starting to return to the form produced in 2022 when he won five races across the season and was the favorite to win the Cup Series for the latter half of the year.

Furthermore, in his last four races, Elliott has a win, a fifth place, and a third place. He is in good form. And we also know the Chevrolet cars suit this circuit.

Elliott is a large-looking +1600 to win the race and is +250 to finish on the podium. Take your pick. We are backing Elliott to win and make him our first betting pick to win the Goodyear 400.

We are also backing Elliott’s in-form teammate to have a good weekend.

Kyle Larson is just +400 to win, so we are slightly reluctant at those odds. But all the stats point to another win for the 2021 Cup Series winner.

We know his team’s cars suit this circuit. He won here last time in the Southern 500, and probably most importantly, he is in such good form. Similarly to what we mentioned about Elliott in 2022, Larson is in the sort of form that made him the man to beat in 2021.

Kyle Larson to win the 2024 Goodyear 400 is our NASCAR betting pick.
