Missouri Sports Betting May Not Arrive Until 2025

While everyone has been waiting for positive Missouri sports betting news, that’s unfortunately not the case right now. The state was hoping to get things done by later this year, which would have them join the more than 30 states in the USA that have done so. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen, as a recent betting bill was shot down. Now, Missouri sports betting may not arrive until 2025.

This is a major disappointment for local citizens, as they’ve been hoping to get this over the line as soon as possible. With a sports betting bill gaining a bit of buzz this spring, the news that the same bill wasn’t able to keep pushing forward was disheartening for people. Now, things have been made even worse with multiple officials saying that they now expect 2025 to be the year things get done.

“The last thing you want to do is put it on the ballot, spend a million or two dollars getting the signatures and doing all that work, and then [lose] by 20 points. Because then it really is dead,” Senator John Rizzo said in a recent interview. “So there are some aspects to it that the resolution through the legislature would be the best resolution, but it’s just a situation of how many are going to continue to stop it from happening.”

With multiple pro teams in the state, it only makes sense for legal sports betting to be on the table for fans to take advantage of. Rizzo has a point, though: the last thing the state wants is to see things get on the ballot, invest a lot of money on it, and then have things get to a point where the voters aren’t all for it. The right bill needs to get developed. If not, there’s only going to be more of a delay here.

NFL betting will be massive for Missouri down the road

It goes without saying, but NFL betting will be massive for Missouri down the road. Why, you ask? Well, it’s simple – the Kansas City Chiefs. While a lot of people think that the Chiefs are located in Kansas, Kansas City is actually across the border nearby in Missouri. Because of this, the Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes have countless fans all across the state. Those same fans can’t wait for Week 1 of the new campaign to arrive.

It has been a memorable few years for Kansas City, as they’ve been able to win the Super Bowl twice with Mahomes running the offense. After winning it all last season, the Chiefs have strong NFL betting odds to win the title once again this year. Mahomes is back, as is star tight end Travis Kelce. Thanks to some big moves this offseason as well, the KC faithful have full belief that KC can go back-to-back.

That won’t be easy, though, as the Eagles, Bills, Ravens, Cowboys and more will hope to spoil the party. Having said that, the Chiefs are always going to be a threat thanks to Mahomes. He won NFL MVP last year after putting up some silly numbers during the regular season. Then once the playoffs arrived, he was a monster on offense, destroying opposing defenses at will. More of the same will be on the way this fall and winter, as Mahomes is still in the prime of his career.

With all of that said, we fully expect that NFL betting will be massive for the state in the coming years. Unfortunately, plenty of illegal football bets are being placed these days, which means loads of money is being transferred in an unregulated fashion. This is something Missouri wants to see come to an end as soon as possible. You can’t forget that the betting revenue for Missouri will surely be quite high once things are made legal as well. This is something politicians must keep in mind.

MLB betting will also be strong in Missouri

On another side of things, MLB betting will also be strong in Missouri thanks to the St. Louis Cardinals. The Cardinals are no strangers to making noise in the MLB postseason, as they have multiple World Series titles to their name. The Cardinals are one of the most historic teams in the National League. This is why once betting is made legal, the club’s supporters would surely check the top-rated sportsbooks to get their bets in. The Cardinals are always a threat to win the NL Central too.

While St. Louis might not be in the mix for the World Series (for now) conversation, people would still love to bet on them consistently. Plus, local fans will also have a strong interest in betting on other teams too. This includes the LA Dodgers, Houston Astros, New York Yankees and more. Between Chiefs and Cardinals bets, Missouri would be loaded with action for years to come. First, though, the green light for legal betting must be given. Will it be 2025? That may end up being the case.
