Thirty-two of the best CS:GO teams in the world are on their way to Malta to compete in Season 18 of the ESL Pro League CS:GO event. The first of the four Group Stages of the tournament began on Wednesday, August 30. The event, which features a total prize pool of $850,000, comes to a close on October 1, 2023.

This week, the second week of the Group Stages, the following teams open the event, participating in Group B: Heroic, ENCE, MOUZ, Monte, BIG, MIBR, Evil Geniuses, and Rooster.

The Group Stage sees the 32 CS:GO teams divided into four triple-elimination format groups. The top four teams from each eight-team group advance to the single-elimination playoffs. All of the ESL Pro League Season 18 CS:GO matchups will be played in a best-of-three series. The Grand Finals will be a best-of-five format.

Last year, FaZe Clan took home the Season 17 title and the top prize of $200,000. They topped Cloud9 in the Grand Final 3-1. FaZe Clan is in Group C in 2023, and Cloud9 is part of Group D.

Heroic

Heroic return for Season 18 of the ESL Pro League CS:GO in the same group the squad won in Season 17. The European team parlayed its strong performance in the Group Stage into a 5th-8th place finish overall and a prize of $35,000. Heroic looks to improve on that performance in Season 18, where they are co-betting favorites to win Group B.

The team, whose newest member joined Heroic in June 2022, has three players who have been working together for more than three years. Heroic enters Season 18 of the ESL Pro League CS:GO tournament with some solid play. Following a first-place finish at the BLAST Premier: Spring Final in June, Heroic finished 1st-3rd in the BLAST Premier Fall Group, 5th-6th at Cologne, and most recently in 3rd-4th at Gamers8.

ENCE

Playing out of Europe, ENCE had a deep run in ESL Pro League CS:GO Season 17, finishing second to FORZE Esports in Group D and then placing in 3rd-4th overall for a prize of $50,000. Like Heroic, ENCE has some momentum heading into Group B play in Season 18. The squad finished second at the ESL Challenger Katowice 2023 event in June and as the Cologne runner-up in July. The team enters ESL Pro League CS:GO Season 18 as the runner-up in the Gamers8 event in July. Outside of ENCE’s second-place finishes, the last time the Finnish squad won an event was in June when they downed MOUZ in the final of the Dallas tournament.

MOUZ

Also competing in Group B is MOUZ, who like Heroic, wrapped up ESL Pro League CS:GO Season 17 in the 5th-8th place position. MOUZ was also in Group B in Season 17, where the team finished behind Heroic in the Group Stage.

MOUZ plays out of Europe. They enter ESL Pro League CS:GO Season 18 with a 9th-12th place finish in Cologne and, most recently, a first-place finish at the Thunderpick World Championship 2023: European Series. Before those two events, the team added two new players, Jimpphat and siuhy. It will be interesting to see how the team plays together against some of the toughest competition in the world in this event.

Best bet to win Group B of ESL Pro League CS:GO Season 18

The best bet for Group B of ESL Pro League CS:GO Season 18 is to pick the two betting favorites to qualify for the event. That’s the easy pick. The tough pick is choosing the winner from those two teams. My betting pick for Group B is for ENCE to break its string if second-place finishes and wins the group.
