Argonauts to avenge loss to Stampeders in CFL Week 12 collision

  • Toronto (7-1) looks to avenge their only loss of the season against Calgary (3-7)
  • Both Winnipeg (8-2) and Montreal (6-3) will get their starting QBs back from injury for their crucial Eastern Conference clash
  • The Argonauts and Stampeders kick off from BMO Field at 7:30pm ET on Friday, August 25

At the midway point of the CFL season, Toronto has only lost once. In Week 12, the reigning Grey Cup champions will have a chance to avenge that sole defeat at home against the Stampeders. Since upsetting the Argonauts in Week 9, Calgary has dropped two-straight to fall to 3-7 on the season.

Who will win Friday’s rematch? Before we make our CFL Week 12 picks, here’s where you can find all the different Sports & Competitions to bet on in 2023. If you’re a fan of pro football, enjoy this list of the best 2023 NFL Football Betting Sites.

Boatmen favored big at home

Toronto is a 9.5-point home favorite against the Stampeders. Calgary is coming off a one-point loss to the Blue Bombers in Week 11. In addition to tossing a costly pick-six in the defeat to Winnipeg, quarterback Jake Maier hasn’t thrown a TD in his past three starts. That includes his club’s 20-7 victory over the Boatmen in Week 9.

Strangely, the Stamps are 7-1-1 against the spread in their last nine trips to Toronto and 15-2 straight up in their last 17 games in the series. The Argonauts are coming off their third-and-final bye of the season. In the previous week’s 44-31 win over Ottawa, Chad Kelly passed for 417 yards and four TDs. While we like them to win, the Argos won’t cover the 9.5-point spread.

Blue Bombers vs Alouettes

Winnipeg is also a 9.5-point home favorite over the Alouettes on Thursday night. Both teams should be getting their starting QBs back for this one. Two-time reigning Most Outstanding Player, Zach Collaros, returned to practice Monday after missing his team’s Week 11 win over Calgary. Montreal was also successful without Cody Fajardo in their lineup, going 2-0 with victories over Saskatchewan and Ottawa.

The Blue Bombers defeated the Als 17-3 back in Week 4, but Jason Maas’ squad is riding a four-game win streak. We think Montreal can keep it close in Manitoba.

Lions vs Tiger-Cats

The Lions are 10-point home chalk against the Tiger-Cats on Saturday. Hamilton is coming off a 24-10 beatdown at home to the previously winless Edmonton Elks. And things should only get worse this week with a game against B.C. followed by a September slate that includes two matchups with Toronto and a clash with Winnipeg.

B.C. suffered a disappointing 34-29 road loss to Saskatchewan in Week 11, but they’re still undefeated at home this season. Look for the Leos to rebound by blowing out the Ti-Cats in BC Place.

Elks vs Redblacks

Edmonton is a 1-point home underdog to Ottawa on Sunday night. It’s a small spread considering the Elks are riding a record-breaking 22-game losing streak at Commonwealth Stadium. Then again, the vibes are much improved after the team snapped a 13-game losing skid that dated all the way back to last September.

Can the Elks keep the momentum going against a 3-7 Redblacks club that’s coming off a dispiriting 25-24 home loss to Montreal? We don’t think so. Ottawa will cover, easily.
