The 2023 World Series of Darts Finals takes place in Amsterdam this weekend. 24 of the best darts players in the world will be competing for the prize pool of over $370,000. The favorite to win the event is Michael van Gerwen at +350, but he will have to contend with the defending champion Gerwyn Price, who is looking to win the title back-to-back. The field has been confirmed for this weekend’s event, and the draw took place on Monday.

The top eight players in the world are seeded and will not enter until the second round, with the remaining 16 players taking part in the first round. The stand-out first-round tie is an all-Dutch clash, with Dirk van Duijvenbode taking on Danny Noppert for the right to play Nathan Aspinall.
But with big names like Raymond van Barneveld, Jonny Clayton, Simon Whitlock, and Keegan Brown all competing in the opening round, the reality is that there are no weak links in this competition.
The opening round of the tournament is the best of 11 legs. When the top eight seeds enter the second round, the format goes to the best of 19 legs, with the same used for the quarter-final.
The two semi-finals and final are then the best of 21 legs. So with the longer format, we can expect to see the cream rising to the top. Now, let’s have a look at the latest betting.
Betting to win the 2023 World Series of Darts Finals
After running into some patchy form earlier in the year, Michael van Gerwen found himself going into tournaments as the second favorite behind Gerwyn Price. In true champion-style, van Gerwen thrashed Price in the Premier League Darts final in May, confirming himself as the best player on the planet when on top form.

Since then, MVG has generally headed any betting market he’s been involved in, and this weekend is no different. The tournament being on his home turf in the Netherlands also plays a part.
MVG is +350 to win the World Series of Darts, with Gerwyn Price at +400 and Michael Smith at +550. Luke Humpries is regarded as the closest rival to the big three. The Englishman is the fourth favorite at +800.

As you can see from our betting table, MVG is far from a heavy favorite. Gerwyn Price and Michael Smith are close behind. The beauty of having such an open market means we can hedge our winner bets, one of many betting strategies available for betting on the winner of a darts tournament.
First Round Picks
The opening round has thrown up some interesting matches, and two that we have our eye on are Van Duijvenbode (-165) against Noppert (+135) and Clayton (-175) against Schindler (+145).
Sometimes darts matches don’t make great betting picks on the money line as the odds can be too short. Thankfully, we can always look to bet on the handicap spread instead. And our next two picks certainly fall into this category.
Dirk van Duijvenbode can consider himself unlucky not to receive an invitation from the PDC to the tournament.

The Dutchman was forced to go through the qualifying process last week. As a result, we feel he will have a point to prove when he meets Danny Noppert.
Van Duijvenbodes recently claimed the scalp of Belgian Kim Huijbrechts at the 2023 World Matchplay and is in good form. We feel that Dirk van Duijvenbode is a good bet to cover the 1.5-game spread at -110 and make him our opening pick.
We also think that Jonny Clayton looks good to defeat Martin Schindler in the opening round. Schindler has done well in recent weeks. But he was very poor when he was on the big stage in Blackpool at the World Matchplay, losing 10-8 to Danny Noppert in the opening round with an average of just 88.57.
Although Clayton hasn’t been at his best recently, he has big-game experience and won this title in 2021. Pick Clayton to win and cover the spread at -115.
Tournament Winner Picks
Finally, our tournament winner picks. Both MVG and Gerwyn Price went out of the World Matchplay early. MVG lost 10-7 to Brendan Dolan in the first round, and Gerwyn Price went down 13-11 to Joe Cullen in the second.
Since then MVG has barely played, and only recently tweeted he was about to return to darts.

Has the break done him good? It’s hard to tell. So giving MVG a wide berth makes sense.
The two in-form players on the circuit are Rob Cross and Gerwyn Price. Both have won back-to-back events in August, which puts them both in a good place for victory in Amsterdam.
