In Form Michael Van Gerwen Looks Good Value to Win Premier League Darts Night 2

Night 2 of the 2024 PDC Premier League Darts competition comes from Berlin in Germany. The betting favorite to win is Luke Littler (+375), and in our latest darts betting picks, we tell you if Littler will continue his meteoric rise and win his first Night of the 2024 Premier League.

  • What; 2024 Premier League Darts Night 2
  • When; Thursday, February 8th
  • Where; Mercedes-Benz Arena, Berlin, Germany
  • Time; 2.10 pm ET
  • Favorite; Luke Littler +375

The 2024 darts season is now well and truly up and running. After the conclusion of the World Championship at the start of January, we’ve now had the Bahrain Darts Masters (won by Luke Littler), the Dutch Darts Masters (won by MVG), Premier League Night 1 (won by Michael Smith), and most recently, the Cazoo Masters (won by Stephen Bunting).

This week sees Night 2 of the Premier League. The action is taking place at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Germany, and after missing last week’s Masters (believe it or not, he didn’t qualify), Luke Littler will be back in action.

Only the top 24 players in the world qualify for the Masters. And despite being the most talked about darts player on the planet, Luke Littler is outside the top 24 and failed to qualify. So, will having the weekend off do Littler a favor when the players take to the oche in Berlin?

Betting to win Night 2 of the Darts Premier League

The top US sportsbooks seem to think that the weekend break for Luke Littler will help as they have made him their +375 betting favorite to win Night 2 of the Premier League.

Littler exited Night 1 at the semi-final stage. He started by thrashing Luke Humphries 6-2 in their best of 11 quarter-finals, but went out at the last four stage, losing 6-5 to eventual winner, Michael Smith. Littler did have a dart to win the match. But he couldn’t take his only chance, and Smith was able to clear up and take his place in the final.

Joint second in the betting to win the night is Luke Humphries and Michael van Gerwen. They are both at +400, with the beaten finalist on Night 1, Gerwyn Price fourth at +450.

Michael Smith is +600 to win his second successive night, with Rob Cross at +700. The remaining two in the betting are Nathan Aspinall at +1600 and Peter Wright at +3300.

Night 2 Quarter-Final Line Up

  1. Nathan Aspinall (+240) vs. Michael van Gerwen (-280)
  2. Michael Smith (+105) vs. Gerwyn Price (-125)
  3. Luke Littler (-220) vs. Rob Cross (+180)
  4. Luke Humphries (-550) vs. Peter Wright (+425)

The fixtures are already set for the night’s action, as are the semi-final matchups. The winners of matches 1 and 2 meet in the first semi, with the victors of matches 3 and 4 clashing in the second.

This means that if MVG can get past Nathan Aspinall, he will be playing the winner of Smith or Price in his semi-final. While in the bottom half of the draw, Luke Littler and Luke Humphries could lock horns again this week, provided they can get past Rob Cross and Peter Wright, respectively.

The bookmakers clearly see Luke Littler as the more likely to win a potential semi-final, as they have made him the favorite to win the night. This is despite Humphries facing big outsider Peter Wright in his quarter-final.

Premier League Darts: Night 2 Betting Picks

For our Night 2 betting picks, we have picked out a bet for the quarter-finals and a night winner betting pick.

Starting with Luke Littler’s quarter-final fixture against Rob Cross, we are going for Littler to beat Cross on the handicap line. Littler is giving away 1.5 legs. This means he has to win at 6-4 or better to cover the spread.

Last week, Littler won his quarter-final 6-2, and Rob Cross won 6-3 against Peter Wright in his match. Cross then went on to lose comprehensively (6-2) in the semi-final against Gerwyn Price.

In his two matches, Cross averaged 93.65 against Wright and a much improved 97.16 against Price. But unless there is a major drop-off in form from Littler (he averaged 100.30 against Humphries and a staggering 105.31 against Smith), we can’t see that being good enough for Cross to cover the spread, never mind win the match.

Our opening pick is for Luke Littler to beat Rob Cross and cover the spread at -135.

Pick to win Night 2 of the Premier League

For our pick to win the night, we’re going to go with Michael van Gerwen. Anybody who regularly reads our darts picks will know that we can be a bit cautious when it comes to backing van Gerwen these days. But in recent weeks, he seems to have the bit between his teeth again.

He lost the Bahrain Darts Masters final to an inspired Luke Littler. MVG then defeated Littler at the Dutch Darts Masters, immediately gaining revenge. Last Thursday, he lost narrowly to Michael Smith in the Premier League quarter-final. Then on Sunday, he was defeated by an unstoppable Stephen Bunting in the final of the Darts Masters.

MVG is back getting to finals and winning titles again. At +400, Michael van Gerwen is our pick to win Night 2 of the Premier League.
