Trump has been in red-hot form lately and is favored to win another title in Bolton, England, this week. It’s always difficult picking players to win competitions when a ready and able Ronnie O’Sullivan is in town. When the Rocket is on song, he rarely loses. But one player who can take the game to O’Sullivan when he is at the top of his game is Judd Trump.
After successive wins at the English Open, Wuhan Open, and Northern Ireland Open in October, there is no hotter player in the world than Judd Trump at the moment. The prospect of this version of Trump taking on O’Sullivan was mouth-watering. Sadly that won’t happen now. But from Trump’s perspective, he still has a tournament to win in Bolton this week.
Betting to win the 2023 Champion of Champions Snooker
Judd Trump is the +210 favorite with the top bookmakers to win his fourth title in just a matter of weeks. After the withdrawal of O’Sullivan and the demise of Luca Brecel and Mark Selby, the chances of another tournament win for Trump look even better. Trump’s closest betting rival is John Higgins at +250, with Barry Hawkins at +350 and Mark Allen at +400.
It would be folly to underestimate Hawkins, as he defeated the current World Champion Luca Brecel 4-0 when they met on Tuesday. But in his current form, Judd Trump would back himself to beat anybody.

Judd Trump expected to cruise to Group 3 win
Thursday sees Judd Trump’s Group 3 in action. Along with Trump in the final group to play are Shaun Murphy, Gary Wilson, and Baipat Siripaporn. Number three seed Trump gets the action underway against Siripaporn, with Murphy taking on Wilson in the other match-up.
There is a great opportunity for whoever emerges from this group, as waiting for the winner in the semi-finals is Barry Hawkins, who came through Group 2 on Tuesday. Hawkins is dangerous, but he is not a Higgins or Selby.
Betting to win Group 3
Judd Trump is short at +210 to win the Champion of Champions competition outright. He is even shorter to win Group 3, just -250. Second in the betting to win the group is Shaun Murphy at +300, with Gary Wilson at +700 and Baipat Siripaporn at +40000.
In the betting for the opening matches on Thursday, Judd Trump is -50000 to beat Baipat Siripaporn. For the record, Siripaporn is +5000. In the second match, Shaun Murphy (-175) is favored to beat Gary Wilson (+137). But as you can see, the odds are far closer in the second match of the two.
Our Group 3 Winner Betting Picks
For our betting picks to win the group, we are going for Judd Trump. He may be a bit short at -250, but he is as close to a certain winner as you can get in sport in his opening match against Siripaporn.
His first test of the day will come when he plays in the final against Shaun Murphy or Gary Wilson. Shaun Murphy has been in reasonable form over the past 12 months. He could cause Trump some problems, but in his current form, we can’t see Murphy stopping the 2021 winner.
Due to Murphy’s presence, we’re not sure Trump is worth backing to win the group at -250. We feel he is a better bet to win the competition outright. And if you are going to part with money to back Trump to win, placing it on him to win the competition is better value.
Our Champion of Champions Betting Picks
If Judd Trump wins through his group, he will be facing Barry Hawkins in the semi-final. The other semi-final sees Mark Allen meet John Higgins.
Mark Allen clinched his place in the last four with a 6-2 win over the in-form Ali Carter. John Higgins went one better and hammered Ding Junhui 6-1 to clinch his place. Ding was a last-minute replacement in the competition for Ronnie O’Sullivan, so may not have been at his best.
John Higgins is the favorite to win the match against Allen at -150. Mark Allen is +120. We believe this is a 50/50 match, or maybe even 60/40 in favor of Allen. Along with the better odds, we are picking Mark Allen to win this match and take his place in the final on Sunday.
We are also picking Judd Trump to win the competition outright. He is the in-form player in world snooker at the moment. It would be madness to pick anybody else to win the event on current form.
