Boston Cannons favored to win the 2024 PLL Championship Series

The 2024 PLL Championship Series will take place in Virginia later this month. The four top sides from the 2023 Premier Lacrosse League will all take part in the event at the St. James Sports Complex in Springfield. The defending champions, Chrome, failed to qualify for this year. The Boston Cannons are the favorites, and they are +250 to win the event for the first time. In our latest Lacrosse betting picks, we look ahead to their chances of success and tell you who the best bet is to win.

  • What; 2024 Premier Lacrosse League Championship Series
  • When; Wednesday, February 14th – Monday, February 19th, 2024
  • Where; St. James, Springfield, Virginia
  • Defending Champions; Chrome
  • 2024 Favorite to Win; Boston Cannons +250

This is the winter Lacrosse event played by the top four finishers in the Premier Lacrosse League from the previous season. This year’s lineup is the Utah Archers, Boston Cannons, Philadelphia Waterdogs, and the California Redwoods.

The only team to qualify this year from the 2023 edition is the Utah Archers. In last year’s event, the Archers were knocked out at the semi-final stage, losing 21-18 to the eventual winners, Chrome (now the Denver Outlaws after rebranding).

Sticking with the theme of rebranding, the 2024 Premier Lacrosse League will now have city names tied to the teams. For example, this now means the Archers are called the Utah Archers. The only team that totally changed its name and moved away from its previous branding is the Denver Outlaws. The Outlaws have dropped the Chrome name altogether from its new branding.

Betting to win the 2024 PLL Championship Series

The four sides will start by playing each other in a round-robin format. Once that is finished, they will be seeded based on their finishing positions, with 1st taking on 4th and 2nd against 3rd in the two semi-final matchups.

The playing format used for the Championship Series is Lacrosse Sixes, meaning it differs from the regular Lacrosse season. This is designed to make the game more appealing to non-fans, as it is a faster-moving game, played over a shorter time frame with fewer players.

What the Lacrosse Sixes format also does is close the gap between the teams in the betting. As you are about to see, the top US sportsbooks are struggling to separate the four sides with their latest odds.

The favorites to win are the Boston Cannons at +250. But behind Boston, the other three teams, the Utah Archers, Philadelphia Waterdogs, and the California Redwoods, are all +275. It is a tight and compact betting market.

Boston Cannons +250

The Cannons finished second in the regular-season table in 2023. In the postseason, they went out of the playoffs at the semi-final stage, losing 17-6 to the Waterdogs.

Boston will open their Championship Series against the Redwoods on Wednesday. Their second match sees them face the Archers on Friday 15th, with their final group fixture against the Waterdogs on Sunday 17th.

Philadelphia Waterdogs +275

The Waterdogs were the nearly-men of the 2023 Premier Lacrosse League season. They finished third in the regular-season table with a 7-3 record. This put them on the same win/loss score as the Cannons and just one win behind the Archers.

Then in the postseason, they also nearly took the honors, only losing by the slenderest of margins (15-14) to the Archers in the final. On their way to the final, they saw off the Whipsnakes (15-12) and the Cannons (17-6).

They will be looking to use the disappointment of coming so close in 2023 as inspiration to spur them on to victory in the 2024 Championship Series.

California Redwoods +275

The Redwoods sneaked into the Championship Series positions by finishing fourth in last season’s PLL with a 6-4 record. That saw them take the last spot, edging out Chaos, who finished 5-5.

In the postseason, the Redwoods made it to the semi-final stage, where they were defeated 14-6 by the eventual winners and table toppers, Archers.

Utah Archers +275

The Utah Archers are the current PLL Champions. In 2023, they topped the table with an 8-2 record, and also won the postseason playoffs, defeating the Waterdogs 15-14 in an entertaining final.

Utah will start its bid to win the Championship Series with a rematch against the Waterdogs on Wednesday 14th.

Our Pick to win 2024 PLL Championship Series

The betting sites have the 2024 PLL Championship Series down as a close call. And they’re right. But we have to name a betting pick to win, and we are going with the Utah Archers.

After topping the table and winning the playoffs in 2023, the Archers are used to winning. They are also the only team from the 2023 Championship Series to qualify for this year’s competition. Overall, this makes them the best bet to win the competition.

The Utah Archers is our betting pick to win the 2024 PLL Championship Series.
