Jack Campbell has made quite the impression this season. Oddsmakers had the Toronto Maple Leafs’ netminder at +2500 in the preseason odds to win the 2021-22 NHL Vezina Trophy. The Vezina is given annually to the best goaltender in the league. Today, Campbell is the favorite to claim the Vezina, coming in at +300. Meanwhile, the preseason favorite, Andrei Vasilevskiy, who has led the Tampa Bay Lightning to back-to-back Stanley Cup titles, has slid a bit from +300 to +400.

Jack Campbell surges
In a preseason poll, the readers of “The Hockey News” did not have Jack Campbell of the Toronto Maple Leafs as a player they thought would win the Vezina Trophy in 2022. If that poll was taken today, it’s hard to believe that Campbell would not be near the top of that list.
Campbell is fourth in the NHL in goals-against average (2.13), second in save percentage (.931), tied for third in wins (19) and second in shutouts (4).

One thing to be aware of for Campbell is that he has not played over 31 games in a season. He’s at 28 games as of now and the Leafs have played just 36 games on the season.
Vasilevskiy hunts for a second Vezina
Andrei Vasilevskiy captured the Vezina Trophy in 2019. He finished third in 2020 and he was a very close second to Marc-Andre Fleury in 2021. Vasilevskiy led the Tampa Bay Lightning to the best record in the NHL in 2019. In 2020 the team had the fourth-best record and the eighth-best record last season. The Lightning has Stanley Cup wins in the past two seasons and Vasilevskiy captured the Conn Smythe in last year’s playoffs.

Vasilevskiy, who has played in 29 games this season, has helped the Lightning to the second-best record in the NHL right now at 26-9-5. Vasilevskiy’s 22 wins this season are the most in the league and his 2.14 goals against ranks him fifth in the NHL.
Shesterkin is a player to watch
Igor Shesterkin is another player who is much higher in the Vezina odds at the halfway point of the season than he was before the 2021-22 NHL campaign began.
The 26-year-old netminder of the New York Rangers was listed at +2000 to capture the Vezina before the season began. He is first in the NHL in save percentage at .939 and first in goals-against average at 1.99. Shesterkin is doing a fantastic job in the New York net, however, Shesterkin has faced the 15th most shots in the NHL this season. With that, it’s hard to tell how much the Rangers’ defense is helping Shesterkin.
Cool. Calm. Shesterkin. pic.twitter.com/v3KmmteO01

Things to monitor with Shesterkin are workload (he had 47 NHL games over two seasons before this year) as well as the number and quality of shots he faces.
