The 2024 NHL All-Star weekend takes place at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. This year’s festivities, which begin with Friday’s NHL All-Star Skills competition, marks the first time the NHL has held its All-Star Game in the home of the Toronto Maple Leafs since 2000. The 2024 NHL All-Star Game goes down on Saturday, February 3, at 3:00 p.m. ET.
This year’s All-Star Game has a new format. Four celebrity captains, Justin Bieber, Tate McRae, Will Arnett, and Michael Buble, helped the All-Star Game captains, Auston Matthews, Connor McDavid, Nathan MacKinnon, and brothers Jack and Quinn Hughes, pick their 11-man rosters on Thursday night during the 2024 Tim Horton’s NHL Player Draft. Since 2016, the All-Star Game has been a four-team, three-on-three tournament. That format remains in play in 2024.

Team Matthews betting breakdown
If the 2024 NHL All-Star game has a home team, it’s the squad that is captained by Toronto Maple Leafs players Auston Matthews and Morgan Rielly. Matthews, Rielly, and celebrity captain Justin Bieber drafted the following players for the squad: William Nylander, Mitch Marner, Jake Oettinger, Clayton Keller, Mathew Barzal, Igor Shesterkin, Filip Forsberg, Alex DeBrincat, and Vincent Trocheck. The players on Team Matthews have combined for 180 goals during the 2024 NHL season with Matthews leading the team, and the NHL at the All-Star break, with 40 markers.
As for the incredibly important goaltending position, Oettinger has a 3.04 goals against average and a .900 save percentage, while the other netminder Igor Shesterkin, sports a 2.86 GAA and a .899 SV %.
Matthews, Marner, and Nylander are three of the top six forwards on the Maple Leafs and they play, along with Nylander on the club’s first power play unit.
Team McDavid betting breakdown
Any team that has Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl of the Edmonton Oilers on it has a chance to rack up a lot of points. The two teammates and Will Arnett selected the following players for the Team McDavid roster for the 2024 All-Star Game: Connor Hellebuyck, David Pastrnak, Rasmus Dahlin, Robert Thomas, Sam Reinhart, Sergei Bobrovsky, Boone Jenner, Nick Suzuki, and Tomas Hertl.
Reinhart and Pastrnak are second and third in goal scoring in the NHL with 37 and 33 goals respectively this season, while McDavid is fourth in the league in points with 67 (20 G, 47 A). Team McDavid has scored a total of 184 goals on the 2024 NHL season. However, unlike the Maple Leafs-heavy Team Matthews, Team McDavid does not have a lot of skaters who have played together this season. In fact, the only skaters on the squad who have taken the ice together are McDavid and Draisaitl.
Team McDavid has experienced goaltenders in Bobrovsky (2.51 GAA, .910 SV %) and Hellebuyck (2.20 GAA, .924 SV%). Hellebuyck is second in the NHL in GAA and tied for that spot in SV%.
Team MacKinnon betting breakdown
Colorado Avalanche stars Nathan MacKinnon and Cale Makar were helped by celebrity captain Tate McRae during the draft for the 2024 NHL All-Star Game. The duo, who were part of the 2022 Stanley Cup-winning club, selected the following players for the team: Sidney Crosby, Alexandar Georgiev, Kirill Kaprizov, Sebastian Aho, Tom Wilson, Jeremy Swayman, Travis Konecny, Elias Lindholm, and Oliver Bjorkstrand.
MacKinnon is having a fantastic season, he is second in the league in scoring with 84 points (31 G, 53 A). The issue with his All-Star team is that no other player on the club is in the top 10 in scoring. Makar is 12th in the league with 58 points (12 G, 46 A). In total, Team MacKinnon players have scored 152 goals on the 2024 NHL season.
The club has Georgiev (2.91 GAA, .898 SV % ) and Swayman in net. Swayman has the third-best goals against average in the NHL at 2.30 this season and is tied with the second-best save percentage at .924.
Team Hughes betting breakdown
Team Hughes is led by Jack Hughes (who will not play due to injury) and his brother Quinn. The team has Michael Buble as their celebrity captain for the 2024 NHL All-Star game. The lineup for Team Hughes is as follows: Elias Pettersson, Nikita Kucherov, Thatcher Demko, Kyle Connor, Brady Tkachuk, Jesper Bratt, Cam Talbot, Brock Boeser, J.T. Miller, and Frank Vatrano. Kucherov is the big gun for the team. He leads the NHL in scoring with 85 points (32G, 53A) on the 2024 NHL season. Miller is fourth in scoring, and Pettersson and Hughes are also inside the top 10 in points this year. Kucherov is also Team Hughes’ leading goal scorer. The squad has combined for 203 goals on the year.
Team Hughes has Demko (2.44 GAA, .920 SV%) and Talbot (2.59 GAA, .911 SV%) in net.
Best bets for 2024 NHL All-Star game
Look for the “home team” of Team Matthews to have a lot of advantages in this game. The biggest edge they have is that a lot of the players on the club have played together for a long while as members of the Maple Leafs. It doesn’t hurt that they will also be playing on home ice in front of a Toronto crowd. The betting pick is that Team Matthews will win the 2024 NHL All-Star game.
