The 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs are in the midst of the final round. Now, the field of 16 teams in the greatest tournament in professional sports is down to two teams. This is it. In about a week or less, a new Stanley Cup champion gets crowned.

Vegas and Carolina are now three games into the battle for Lord Stanley’s Cup. Oddsmakers note that 77% of the teams that win Game 3 go on to win the series. Updated numbers include the Conn Smythe Trophy odds for the most valuable player of the playoffs. Mitch Marner of the Golden Knights (-200) currently is the favorite. Frederik Andersen of the Hurricanes (+5000) has dropped. However, it’s not over yet.

NHL draft and rumors

Soon, the offseason will be here for all 32 teams. Now, think about this. Teams are already pondering trading their draft pick and there is only 2 1/2 weeks until the NHL Draft. NHL Free Agency comes at us beginning July 1st. However, more and more are trending toward an underwhelming free agent frenzy, we go a different direction on the page and start with the Draft.

While the NHL Draft takes place in Buffalo on June 26th and 27th, free agency starts at Noon ET on July 1st. Gavin McKenna expects to go to the Toronto Maple Leafs with the first overall pick. Odds nudged even more into the -750 to -800 range for that to happen. Oh, the field is at +550.

Now, our suggestion is to be mindful of all the rumors one is about to see in the coming weeks. While the Stanley Cup Final comes and goes, the rumors will only intensify.

Yes, this will be plenty of what bettors and more will see once the hockey ends. Do expect a few draft weekend trades too.

With the postseason now in its final days, let’s get one last look!

Early Stanley Cup impressions are interesting

The first three games of the Stanley Cup Final between the Carolina Hurricanes and Vegas Golden Knights have featured a little of everything. One thing it has not lacked is drama. I mean the Carolina Hurricanes came into this series as a slight -150 to -160 favorite to defeat the Golden Knights. However, the surprising thing has been, for some, all the goals. With Carter Hart and Frederik Andersen in net, maybe we should have all seen this coming.

All three contests have been competitive and even feisty. It will be a battle. Mitch Marner notched a hat trick in Game 3 and staked Vegas to a 4-0 lead. However, his missed penalty shot let open the flood gates for Carolina, sort of. The Hurricanes rallied by scoring four times in the third period. Naturally, that forced overtime. One overtime went by before Shea Theodore shot the puck toward the net. It missed the target, hit the end boards, and then caromed in off Brandon Bussi in the second overtime.

This Stanley Cup Final has been a series full of crazy balances and wild momentum shifts. Game 1 saw Carolina go up 2-0 early before Vegas rebounded. The second game turned as Carolina rallied from down 2-0, went up 3-2, and then Vegas forced overtime late. Yes, the Hurricanes won Game 2 setting up the Game 3 dramatics.

Clearly, the most nerve-wracking aspect of this series is the volatility of it. Bettors seem happy amid the hope that this is a long series with many turns to come.

Carolina and Vegas continue the battle for the Stanley Cup

So, the Stanley Cup Final continues this week (Tuesday) with the Carolina Hurricanes and Vegas Golden Knights. The bigger question is how to figure out this series. Right now, the two teams are razor-thin close even with Vegas up two games to one. All games are on ABC at 8 pm ET and the latest the final round can end is now June 17th (if there is a Game 7).

Now, Frederik Andersen (Carolina) and Carter Hart (Vegas) are two goalies who have never been in this round and it shows. The first three games have seen the following outputs in goals. At some point, the goal totals may come on down but those in Vegas and around the world have stuck with the over/under at 5.5 goals for Game 4 and seemingly beyond. Maybe, the sportsbooks will get it right eventually.

  • Game 1 – 9
  • Game 2 – 7
  • Game 3 – 9

Watching the series and looking ahead reveal that there are quite a few turning points to come. When a bettor sees several of these per game, it heightens the challenge and probably the rush too. One of the fun things last weekend was talking to some bettors straight from Atlantic City. You can instantly tell the difference between those that play the numbers, series, or utilize both.

Vegas holds a tenuous home-ice advantage for the best-of-seven series. With Vegas allowing more chances, Carolina appears to still have an advantage. However, Vegas is a -180 series favorite at the moment. Most sportsbooks are around +130 to +150 for a series that could go the distance. Considering Carolina is 13-3 and Vegas is 14-5 in the second season, maybe we all get that long series that everyone desires. After all, Carolina did go seven games with Edmonton in 2006.

Conn Smythe options get shuffled around again

Now, the Conn Smythe Trophy is awarded to the most valuable player to their team throughout the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The award has been given to a player on the losing team in the Cup Final six times in NHL history. This feels not too likely in 2026 and yes, several more shifts have happened.

Mitch Marner was at +165 and is now around -200 to win the Conn Smythe thanks to a prolific playoff run and a few more goals and assists in the early portion of the series. Naturally, the second choice is Taylor Hall (+475 to +500), Why? Frederik Andersen was +220, but has given up 13 goals already. Carter Hart has not fared much better while allowing four goals in each game so far. Hart has cratered all the way to +15000.

For some fun, Brett Howden and his 13 goals are +7500 to win the Conn Smythe. His teammate, Mitch Marner, may have too many points in the bank to be overtaken here. Even if Howden say nets the Stanley Cup clinching goal, it feels unlikely. On the Carolina side, the Hurricanes’ second line led by Hall feels like the logical option now. Logan Stankoven turns around +650 to +700 and could have a few more goals left in him.

The chances of a longer shots crashing the party now is almost zero. A dash of common sense is advised here.

Vegas and Carolina meet more series props

With the Stanley Cup Final somewhere in the middle, more series props come roll in at MTS. The list of options can be fun and we have a few on our list to spotlight. Here we go.

  • Carolina (-1.5 games) over Vegas (+500)
  • Vegas (-1.5 games) over Carolina (EVEN)
  • Series to go 6 (+210), to go 7 (+210)
  • Any game to see 10+ goals (+200) – two have seen 9.
  • Carolina in 6 or 7 (+500 and +320), Vegas in 6 or 7 (+275 and +450)
  • Exact games at 6 or 7 are around +140 to +150 while 5 now stands at +320.

After that, there are more possibilities surprisingly enough. Anyway, the time to hedge a little much has come and gone. We are in the midst of what feels like a long series that can still go either way. Every game has been competitive. The danger is what was seen in the Carolina-Montreal series but the Canadiens ran out of gas. Meanwhile, Vegas feels like it has a few more cards to play.

Carolina is now on the plus side here. The question is can they bounce back? With the way both goaltenders have been, anything is possible. Expecting chaos here is the norm.

Stanley Cup Final series player props continue

The Stanley Cup Final series between the Carolina Hurricanes and Vegas Golden Knights offer updated series player props of note. One can bet on anything from most goals scored to most points to most shots on goal. There is an every game option for these too. The Mitch Marner hat trick prop connected already in Game 3. However, other props are out there. Shots may have to be adjusted as in 85 minutes of action on Saturday, the teams combined for 68. That rate is not great.

Anyway, as the series goes into its next phases, Mitch Marner’s 10 shots in Game 3 kind of torpedoed the series player prop on shots. Sometimes these things happen. Overall, the forward attempted 13 shots. He may still be shooting pucks as we speak.

The wildcard question is now Brandon Bussi. Bussi wildly outperformed Frederik Andersen during the regular season. The young goaltender did not seem phased by what he walked into. He stopped the Marner penalty shot and stopped 18 of 19 shots as Vegas cranked up the offense.

By far, one of the crazier player props is always the one where a player gets at least a point in every game. Mitch Marner remains the favorite here too at +185 (and for most goals too). Alas, Brett Howden and Tomas Hertl are both +750 here and could be possible alternatives to consider a very small wager here.

The free agent frenzy set for July 1st

What will we all do in a world with no hockey? Naturally, there will be free agency which starts next month. Here at MTS, we will recap how it went, who went where, and what impact that will have on 2026-27 NHL Futures. Perhaps, there will be some outlooks on how some of these players may fare on their new teams.

Do not be alarmed to see a few markets open up some more of the prominent free agents such as Alex Tuch. For some that were aiming for restricted free agents, we hate to disappoint but those are unexpected to surface on sportsbooks.
