While Jack Eichel has not officially requested a trade, his comments about there being “a disconnect” between him and the Buffalo organization since his season-ending neck injury suggest that his bags are all but packed.

Rangers and Kings favored to land Eichel
The Rangers (+250) reportedly had discussions with the Sabres about Eichel last offseason, however, they will have a new team president, general manager, and head coach next season after cleaning house over the past week. While new GM Chris Drury will almost certainly have interest in the 24-year-old center, it’s unlikely that Buffalo will want to trade their franchise player within the division.
With a deep pool of prospects, Los Angeles (+300) is a much better bet than the Big Apple. Having not advanced past the first round of the postseason in seven years (including four playoff misses), the Kings will be desperate to give its aging core of Anze Kopitar, Dustin Brown, and Drew Doughty one last run at the Cup.

The Bruins (+500) acquired Eichel’s teammate Taylor Hall at the deadline and given how well that has worked out to date, one would assume Eichel would be interested in returning home to Massachusetts.
While Boston has plenty of cap space and a potential hole at center ice with David Krejci’s $7.25M contract set to come off the books this summer, their prospect pool makes it unlikely that Don Sweeney could cobble together a competitive offer.
Other potential landing spots
It’s important to point out that Eichel won’t be able to force his way to a big market like New York, Los Angeles or Boston as he has five years left on his eight-year, $80 million contract. It also behooves the Sabres to trade their captain this offseason as his no-move clause kicks in a year from now on July 1, 2022 – which would allow Eichel to dictate where he ends up.
Calgary (+600) and Columbus (+100) are two teams in desperate need of a young center-iceman. And with three first-round draft picks and a bevy of interesting prospects to offer, the Blue Jackets definitely have enough ammunition to get a new pivot for struggling winger Patrik Laine.

After putting together a strong season under coach Dean Evason, the Wild (+800) have the organizational stability to take a risk on Eichel, who comes with both injury and character concerns. General manager Bill Guerin may act quickly to put a bonafide first-line center alongside young star Kirill Kaprizov.
