Geoff JohnsonJohn Tortorella returns to Madison Square Garden as the Canucks coach as they face Alain Vigneault’s Rangers. Crazy story for what should be a crazy game this Sunday at 2 PM ET in the NHL.
Tortorella and Vigneault basically swap teams in the summer, but they have had different results while the Rangers are third in the Metropolitan division, the Canucks are fifth in the pacific division.
“We’ve beaten this thing up,” Tortorella said. “It’s another game on the schedule. It’s an important game for us to get some traction. We have enough things to worry about with our hockey team than to worry about other teams.
“I make my own bed (in New York), but some of it got carried away. I’m with a different club, and this is where I want to be.”
The Canucks players don’t seem to get the point of the former coaches; for them it’s just another game in the calendar.
“We’re playing the New York Rangers,” said Daniel Sedin. “I know our former coach is over there, but once you get into the game you’re not going to think too much about it. He was with us for seven years, and he meant a lot to this franchise, so it’s going to be fun seeing him again, but once the game gets going we want the two points, and so does he.”
Vancouver (13-9-5) is the favorite in the money line listed -113 to get the win and New York (13-13-0) are +102. The Canucks are 4-2 SU in their last 6 games when playing on the road against NY Rangers.
