While three-game deficits are almost impossible to overcome in the playoffs, the Kings still realize how tough close-out games can be. And they know the Rangers will be in desperation mode come Game 4 on Wednesday night (8:00 p.m. ET on NBC Sports Network).
“We can’t get ahead of ourselves,” said Kings defender Drew Doughty. “That’s very important. We were up 3-1 against Chicago and we let them back into the series. We could have lost that series no problem. We know how easy it is for teams to get back in a series. And we have to shut it out right away. We can’t let them get any energy from their crowd in their arena in the next game. We need to try and close it out as soon as possible.”
“It doesn’t matter when we do it, we just have to do it,” added winger Tyler Toffoli.
The Kings are also familiar with overcoming 3-0 deficits, as they did just that in the first round of the playoffs against the San Jose Sharks.
The Rangers meanwhile, will look to manufacture even the slightest of momentum to extend the series. With their desperation level at high, the Rangers will at least bring a manic energy on Wednesday night.
“We’ve rallied off wins before. We’re going to come out with everything we got,” defender Ryan McDonagh said. “Nothing to save it for now.”
The New York Rangers are the current favorite for Game 4 at -135, with the Los Angeles Kings sitting at +115. The Puck Line has the Rangers at -1.5.
