While this bout doesn’t have the appeal of the Tim Tszyu vs. Jermell Charlo matchup that fight fans have been hoping to see, and may get before the end of this year, fight fans should not sleep on this matchup because the winner is likely to land a unification bout against Charlo once his hand is healed and he is ready to compete.
Tszyu is a skilled boxer who is getting better with every fight and gaining more high-level knowledge. Expect him to approach this fight with focus and determination, as he knows a win here will likely to earn him the biggest payday of his career against Charlo. I don’t think he will fight down to the level of his unrated foe, nor do I think he is taking the fight lightly. My feeling is that Tszyu is taking the fight against Ocampo to stay busy and keep his high-level skills active. Tszyu is a good pressure fighter, but he’s just as adept at counterpunching. In addition, Tszyu is good at controlling distance and position. He does an excellent job of using probes to open his opponent’s offense and then attacking when he gets his opponent against the ropes, hurt or off balance.
An active jab from Ocampo is his best bet. Tszyu tends not to react well when his opponent uses an active jab game. The problem with that is that Ocampo is not a fighter who uses his jab all that much. Instead, he relies on hooks, which will hurt him against someone like Tszyu.
