The 2023/24 Women’s NCAA Basketball tournament is only a few matches old, but LSU and UConn are already dominating the betting and are the clear favorites to win. • After the regular season ends, the 2024 Women’s NCAA Basketball Tournament is from March 20th, 2024 to April 7th, 2024

Betting to win the 2024 Championship

At the top of the betting to win the Women’s NCAA Championship, the odds are close between LSU and UConn. Depending on which college basketball betting sites you use will depend on who the favorites are. With BetOnline, UConn leads the way at +400, with LSU second at +500. But if you look at the odds with Bovada, it’s LSU who are the favorites at +350, with the Connecticut women at +500.

South Carolina is next at impressive looking odds of +700. The Gamecocks have had a good start to the season. If they can keep this form up across the next few fixtures, those college basketball odds of +700 will soon disappear. Bigger challenges do lie ahead for South Carolina. But at this moment in time, it’s a case of so far, so good.

Below, we’ve put together some betting options to win the 2024 Championship on our NCAA Women’s basketball betting table.

LSU dropped from the No.1 ranking slot

LSU started the season as the No.1 ranked side in the AP polls. After an opening night defeat to Colorado, they saw their ranking slip to No.7 when the latest poll results were released in mid-November. This wasn’t just down to the results of the Tigers though. The impressive form of other college sides played a part, like in the case of South Carolina, as you will read about later in this article.

The Tigers are next in action on Monday night when they take on TX Southern at the John Gray Gymnasium. They have a quick turnaround before they take on Niagara on Tuesday.

In their most recent outing, the Tigers defeated Southeastern Louisiana 73-50 at the University Center in Hammond on Friday evening. This saw them take their record this season to 5-1. The win was their fourth in succession.

UConn records second successive win as confidence returns

The UConn Huskies have a 3-1 record so far this season. In their most recent match on Sunday evening, the Huskies defeated Minnesota 62-44 at the Williams Arena to record their second consecutive win.

Before last night’s victory, UConn destroyed Maryland 80-48 at the Gampel Pavilion in midweek. This was a welcome result against the No.20 ranked side and a much-needed confidence boost after Geno Auriemma’s team lost 92-81 to the No.14 ranked NC State.

A second successive defeat to a lower-ranked team on the bounce wouldn’t have been good at this early stage of the season. So a 32-point win over a decent team was just what the doctor ordered. And now they have backed that up with Sunday’s win over Minnesota they will be in a far better place when they face UCLA in the Cayman Islands Classic this Friday.

South Carolina starts the new season on fire

The Gamecocks have gotten their 2023/24 season off to a flying start. As we already know, LSU started the season as the No.1 ranked team, but after the way South Carolina started their season, they have taken over as the top-ranked team.

Dawn Staley’s team is currently 3-0, racking up 100 or more points in all three of their matches. They first defeated Notre Dame 100-71 in their season opener. The Gamecocks followed that up with a 114-76 win over Maryland, and then, in their most recent fixture, they defeated Clemson 109-40. The wins over Notre Dame and Maryland were against ranked teams.

South Carolina’s next match is against SD State at the Colonial Life Arena, the scene of the Gamecocks’ second and third wins this season. It’s hard to see them not making their record 4-0.

NCAAW Best Bets

We still believe it’s a more open competition than the betting suggests, and although the top three in the betting have all been in the final over the past two seasons, we still wouldn’t write off the chances of Stanford, Notre Dame, and UCLA.

At this early stage of the season, getting value is the name of the game, and hoping that the team we pick comes good at the end of the season. We like the look of the UCLA Bruins at +1500. They have started the season well and we are happy to hedge our bets and cover them at those odds.

We also think that UConn can’t be ignored. They are one of the betting favorites. But they are a well-coached team who made the final in 2022. The Huskies are also the most successful team in the history of the NCAA women’s tournament with 11 Championship wins, and opposing teams can often be intimidated by such records.

At +500, the Huskies are worth backing. And we also feel it’s worth topping up our bets on them whenever their odds drift after a defeat.
