Brigham Young is favorite by 3 points in the college football odds because they lead the series against San Diego State 26-6-1.
“It was our hope that San Diego State would be the opponent because of the long-time history between the two schools,” Bruce Binkowski, executive director of the San Diego Bowl Game Association said. “But we weren’t going to take San Diego State at 6-6. We probably have taken them at 7-5, but it wasn’t a slam dunk that the Aztecs would be available. So when they finished 9-3 and got passed up by the Las Vegas Bowl — and we get the second pick out of the conference — we grabbed them. It just worked out perfectly for us. We couldn’t be happier, for a lot of reasons”.
“A lot of what I’ve learned coaching-wise, especially the defensive side, has come from him,” said BYU coach Bronco Mendenhall said of Rocky Long. “It’s a unique chance to play against a mentor and a friend”.
The Aztecs are 3-7 ATS in its last 10 games when playing the Cougars, and the total has gone OVER in 4 of San Diego State’s last 5 games when playing at home against BYU.
The last time these two met was in 2010 with a 24-21 victory by BYU.
