Week 8 opens tonight with an interesting PAC-12 matchup as the 4-1 Utah Utes visit the 4-1 Oregon State Beavers at 10 p.m. Eastern at Reser Stadium in Corvallis, Oregon.
Not only are both teams 4-1 on the season, but they are both 1-1 in the Pac-12. Neither will want to suffer a second loss this early in their conference schedule.
The Utes come into the game ranked No. 20 after beating then-No. 8 UCLA (30-28) in their last outing. The Utes covered the spread as 13 points dogs against the Bruins, and are now 4-1 ATS this year.
Utah has the 19th best scoring offense in the nation, averaging 39.6 points per game, and the 38th best defense, allowing 21.4 per contest. They are led by Junior quarterback Kendal Thompson, who knows that he and the team need to keep improving.
“You’re only as good as your next game, and I just continue to strive forward and try to get myself better as a player and be prepared for whatever happens,” Thompson said.
“We had some good production (against UCLA) but we were still a little ineffective in the passing game, and I feel like we’ve yet to tip the ice on that. If we can get that going along with the running game, the sky is the limit for the offense.”
Oregon State has only played one game against a ranked team this season, losing 35-10 to USC. The Beavers average 28.2 points per game and 23.4 points against, and they haven’t been a particularly good bet this season, posting a 2-3 record against the spread.
Last season, these two teams combined for 99 points during a 51-48 OSU victory in Utah.
The game total sits at 53 points, currently, and the the Utes are 2.5 point favorites.
