College Football Week 9 Sneak Peek – (3) Ole Miss at LSU

Bo+WallaceOne of the biggest surprises of the 2014 season, the Ole Miss Rebels, will have an intriguing visit to Louisiana to take on the LSU Tigers on Saturday, October 27, at 7:15 p.m. Eastern at Tiger Stadium.

Ole Miss (6-0, 3-0 SEC) started the season as an unranked team but have climbed all the way to third place in the AP Poll on the strength of wins over Alabama and Texas A&M.

The defense sets the tone for Ole Miss, especially the front seven. Outside linebacker C.J. Johnson is the anchor of the defense and should find himself playing on Sundays in the near future. Ole Miss has the second best defense in the nation in terms of scoring, allowing just 11.8 points per game, and holding the Crimson Tide and Aggies to 17 and 20 points, respectively.

“We just want to keep playing football,” defensive tackle Robert Nkemdiche said. “Whatever they rank us is how they rank us.”

QB Bo Wallace is making a case for the Heisman with 1,700 passing yards, 15 TDs, and just 6 INTs.

The LSU Tigers are not having a bad season with a 5-2 record (1-2 SEC). With two losses under their belt already, LSU has waved goodbye to any hope of a playoff spot, even though those losses came against top ranked Mississippi State and former No. 1 Auburn.  Coach Les Miles’ Tigers have the 37th best offense in the nation, averaging 34.0 points per game, and the 17th best defense, allowing 19.0 points per game.

The strength of the offense is the run game, which averages 209.1 yards per game. Freshman Leonard Fournette, in particular, has been a force, amassing 504 yards so far this season and averaging 5.2 yards per carry.

Despite playing at home, LSU will enter this game as underdogs (unless Ole Miss is shocked by Tennessee in the meantime).
