There will be no nervous butterflies or palpable buzz in the air when the Heisman Trophy is handed out in New York City on Monday.
Joe Burrow has the bronze statue on lockdown after the LSU senior threw for 4,715 yards and 48 touchdowns in an undefeated 13-0 season that can be described as nothing else but magical.
With that said, let’s look at the updated odds at BetOnline and instead place a bet on who’s going to finish with the second-most 1st-place votes.

That is no misprint above. Hovering somewhere between +4000 and +20000 before the year, Burrow’s odds to win the Heisman are now a ridiculous -30000.
While I’m sure you’re aware what that means, it still needs to be broken down in case Floyd Mayweather or other similar high-rollers happen to be reading: you would have to lay down $30,000 to win a mere $100.

Will Burrow be the first Heisman winner to be a unanimous first-place selection? If nothing else, he should find himself on this list of the top vote-getters of all time.
THE RACE FOR SECOND PLACE
This is a hard one to handicap. Available at +120 to receive the second-most 1st-place votes, Chase Young ranked No. 1 in the country in sacks (16.5) despite missing two games because of a suspension.
Will voters punish the Ohio State defensive end for his rules violation or reward him for a dominant season that will result in him being picked no later than second in the 2020 NFL Draft? We see that drool on your chin, Giants fans.

Bidding to become the third-straight Sooners signal caller to take home the statue, Jalen Hurts has the same second-place odds as Young at +120.
The Oklahoma transfer put up 3,634 yards and 32 touchdowns in the air and another 1,255 yards and 18 scores on the ground, while leading OU to a spot in the College Football Playoff.
Justin Fields (+200) also has a compelling Heisman case after becoming the first player in Big Ten history with 40 passing touchdowns and 10 rushing scores in a single season.

Keep in mind that the Georgia transfer compiled those video-game-type numbers in his first season in Ryan Day’s offense without even getting to play in the fourth-quarter for most of the season, thanks to Ohio State’s dominance.
While the Buckeyes quarterback gets my vote for second place, I think voters might lean towards his teammate Young, who many consider to be the best player in all of college football.
