Oddsmakers believe Georgia (+400) is the Tide’s primary competition after the Bulldogs defense dominated the Tigers in a neutral site game in Charlotte on Saturday. The loss dropped Clemson’s national championship odds from +450 before the season to +800 today.
Ohio State (+550) and Oklahoma (+750) were far from perfect in their season debuts, but their high-powered offenses were as advertised. Redshirt freshman C.J. Stroud threw four second-half touchdowns in a 45-31 Buckeyes victory over Minnesota, connecting with the dynamic duo of Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson for a combined 197 receiving yards and three touchdowns.

Meanwhile, the Sooners barely got by Tulane 40-35. If Oklahoma’s defense remains a problem all year, Texas A&M (+1800) could sneak into the CFP playoff.

Bryce moves up the board
Picking up right where Mac Jones left off, Alabama’s Bryce Young (+600) looked dynamic in his college football debut, throwing for 344 yards and four touchdowns against the Hurricanes. Considering Spencer Rattler (+600) tossed two picks in Week 1, his place on the board is suspect at best.
Preseason Heisman favorite JT Daniels picked up the win against Clemson despite throwing for only 135 yards with no touchdowns and an interception. The Bulldogs passer saw his odds double from +600 to +1200. Sam Howell (+2000) can also wave goodbye to his Heisman candidacy following a 17-10 loss to Virginia Tech where he tossed three interceptions. There are brighter times ahead for D.J. Uiagalelei (+1000), who will get to feast on weak ACC competition the rest of the year after getting beat up by the Bulldogs. Still, C.J. Stroud (+1200) might be the best value on the board. Like Rattler, who’s at the controls of Lincoln Riley’s high-octane attack, the Ohio State QB will put up video game numbers as long as Ryan Day is at the controls.
