Bayern Munich Stats and Recent Games

Bayern Munich defeated Koln 2-0 over the weekend thanks to goals from Guerreiro and Muller, but the victory celebrations did not last long. On Sunday, Bayer Leverkusen won their 25th game of the campaign to clinch their first Bundesliga title in 120 years. Finally overcoming the infamous “Neverkusen” nickname after a series of recent runners-up finishes amidst their horrendous drought, a 5-0 win over Werder sealed the deal.

Thomas Tuchel and Co. now have no choice but to throw all their eggs into one basket and go for European glory as their remaining domestic exploits have been proven largely inconsequential. Previously this year, it was stated Tuchel would be sacked if he could not bring Bayern to the quarterfinals of the Champions League. Despite fulfilling those obligations, Tuchel is still set to leave at the end of the season. The decision was mainly triggered by locker room sentiment, especially after their 4-0 loss to Bayer Leverkusen.

Now tied on aggregate heading back to Munich for the second leg against Arsenal, hope remains for Tuchel to leave Bayern vindicated with a Champions League trophy. Bayern Munich’s search for a replacement is well underway. Leverkusen’s manager Xabi Alonso was initially the prime target, but after publicly expressing his commitment to his current team, Bayern had to explore other options.

Bayern apparently reached out to Zinedine Zidane, who has been without a club since departing Real Madrid back in 2021. Zidane has shown eagerness to return to coaching and was speculated to be eyeing the France national team job, only for Didier Deschamps to extend his contract with Les Bleus until 2026. It remains uncertain if Zidane would consider managing Bayern, as the legendary midfielder has previously stated his preference not to work in a country where he isn’t fluent in the language.

Arsenal Slipping in Title Race After Recent Loss

Manchester City regained the sole lead in the English Premier League title race after a 5-1 win over Luton Town. Arsenal and Liverpool both lost over the weekend, which may prove to be costly defeats with only 6 games left to play. Following this, they face a challenging away fixture against Wolverhampton Wanderers, a team that has already secured victories over both City and Tottenham Hotspur at their home ground earlier in the season.

The parallel with last season raises considerable concern. A year ago, Arsenal began a streak of three wins from their last nine league matches, ultimately conceding the title to Manchester City. Once again, Pep Guardiola’s team finds themselves in the lead position after a weekend where both their primary rivals suffered home defeats.

Arsenal have made regular appearances in European soccer throughout the 21st century but have never won the prestigious Champions League trophy. This year marks their return to the Champions League for the first time since their record streak of 19 consecutive appearances dating back to 1998-99 ended. Their closest sniff of success was a runners-up finish in the 2018-19 Europa League.

Remarkably, Arsenal only journeyed to the semifinals once during that Champions League streak. Now, they sit just one game away from the semifinals. History could be in the making on Wednesday, but they must address their lack of offensive output.

No Arsenal supporter needs to be reminded of the visitors’ past humiliations on the Allianz Arena pitch. Arsenal heads back to Munich following consecutive 5-1 away losses to Bayern in 2015 and 2017. Out of their six away matches against the Bavarians, Arsenal has only managed to secure victory once. However, even that lone success, a 2-0 victory in the last-16 second leg in March 2013, proved inconsequential due to the abolished away goals rule, which Bayern cannot lean on to secure victory in this encounter.

Bayern Munich vs Arsenal Prediction and Free Betting Pick

Arsenal are notoriously strong defensively, something they will have to rely upon if they hope to continue their European journey after their stop in Bavaria. Tuchel’s Bayern led a masterclass performance with a strong press giving Arsenal’s back line trouble all game, yet they will be missing key players this midweek.

Bayern had to implement three changes, making a total of seven alterations, for their most recent Bundesliga match against FC Koln due to knocks picked up by both Gnabry and Sane. Manuel Neuer is also absent from Bayern’s squad due to a new adductor problem. Tuchel’s star left-back Alphonso Davies remains suspended for the quarter-final second leg. Bayern faced an additional setback when winger Kingsley Coman seemed to sustain a muscle injury and had to leave the field during their 2-0 victory in the second half.

I believe the line has not yet properly accounted for these injuries, and see some value on Arsenal. So I will place a half unit on Arsenal +0.25 at (-125).
