Kiwis coast to win in opening match
New Zealand won the first ODI of the series convincingly, chasing down England’s 291/6 with ease, eventually winning the match by 8 wickets with 26 balls remaining. That match was in Cardiff at Sophia Gardens, which is not the largest ground.
And so it showed as New Zealand cantered to victory with unbeaten hundreds from Devon Conway and Daryl Mitchell.
We take a 1-0 ODI series lead in Cardiff 🏏

England stage remarkable comeback to level the series
The second match was at the Rose Bowl in Southampton on Sunday. After New Zealand had won the toss, elected to bowl, and reduced England to just 8/3, things looked good for the visitors, and in what was a rain-reduced match, the Kiwis looked set to go 2-0 up in the four-match series.
That still looked likely when England staged a brief recovery, but then a couple of quick wickets reduced the hosts to 55/5, and then again to 103/6. Again, at those stages, New Zealand were heavy favorites to go 2-0 in the in-play betting markets.
But thanks to an unbeaten 95 from Liam Livingstone and an inspired display in the field from the bowling attack, England somehow managed to go from 8/3 to win the match by 79 runs. The hosts managed 226/7 from their 34 Overs. New Zealand slumped to 147 all out when they batted.

The upshot is that the series is now all square. And that means it’s all to play for when the iconic Oval hosts the third match on Wednesday.
England vs. New Zealand; Betting to win the series
With this being a four-match series, the draw is a factor. And as this series is in England, the weather is also a factor. You can never discard rain affecting a match in England, meaning one (or both) of the remaining two matches could be rained off.
Forgetting about the weather for a moment, England are the favorites to win the series at +110. A drawn series is +125. And a win for New Zealand is +500.
On paper, England should win the series. But there is little value backing the hosts to win at +110. England would either need to win both remaining matches. Or win one and hope the other match is abandoned, due to the weather.
As things stand, the weather for the third match at The Oval looks good, with no rain forecast. The fourth and final match is at Lord’s (London) on Friday. Again, the weather looks good. So the chances are, there will be two results from the final two matches.
Beware though! The weather in England can change in an instant. But going on the best information we currently have available, a bet on a drawn series could be the best outcome, with both teams winning one each of the two remaining matches.

Adil Rashid (+350) and Mark Wood (+350) are the joint favorites to be the top English bowler. With Gus Atkinson and Sam Curran both at +400.
As for New Zealand, Devon Conway is favored to top score with the bat at +333. Close behind are Daryl Mitchell (+400), Will Young (+450), Tom Latham (+500), and Finn Allen (+500).
In the bowling department, after his figures of 3/37 against England on Sunday, Trent Boult leads the way at +220, with Lockie Ferguson (+333), Matt Henry (+375), and Tim Southee (+375), his closest rivals.
Our Picks
This is our call on the match-winner pick for Wednesday. If New Zealand bats first, then bet on England to win. If England bats first, then no bet would be our advice, as we don’t know how England will approach their innings. But one thing we do know is that England likes to chase.
We also like the look of Gus Atkinson and Sam Curran in the top bowler markets. The Oval is the home ground of both players, and they will know the conditions well.
Atkinson (+400) has performed well against New Zealand in the T20s and the ODIs. And that makes him worth a bet.
Sam Curran (+400) has had a quiet series with the ball, but given the quality player he is, Curran is probably due a match-winning performance.
