Lando Norris a good bet to finish on the podium in Hungarian Grand Prix

The Formula 1 roadshow continues its tour of Europe, and this weekend the location is the Hungaroring for the 2023 Hungarian Grand Prix. This is Round 12 of the World Championship, and Max Verstappen is the favorite to win with the best F1 betting sites. Here we look ahead to the race with our Formula 1 betting picks and tell you the best bets to place to make some money on the race.

  • What; 2023 Hungarian Grand Prix – Round 12
  • Where; Hungaroring, Mogyoród, Hungary
  • When; Sunday, July 23rd, 2023
  • Time; 9 am ET
  • Laps; 70
  • Race Length; 306.630 km

Yes, Max Verstappen is favored to win the race yet again. But at odds of -280, we have to ask if it is a risk worth taking. The double-world champion has won the previous six races, and it would take a brave or foolish punter to oppose him. But his winning run has to end one day, as he can’t keep on winning forever.

So the question now is, do we back Verstappen? Or do we back the other drivers in with a chance of a podium finish? Because as you’re about to see, we could back all the drivers in with a chance of finishing on the podium, and still be well in profit if one of them wins the race.

Betting to win the 2023 Hungarian Grand Prix

Max Verstappen is again the favorite to win the race. The Red Bull driver is -280 to win the Hungarian Grand Prix with the best F1 betting sites. In the UK two weeks ago, Verstappen was -300, which is his price most weeks. So odds of -280 aren’t much of a break from the norm.

As for Verstappen’s competitors, if we can even call them that, they are headed by his teammate Sergio Perez who is +1000. Following on from Perez is Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso at +1200, and then Lewis Hamilton at +1400.

A new name is among the favorites in Hungary, Lando Norris at +1600. The reason? Well, the McLaren car has had some upgrades carried out in recent weeks, with impressive results.

In Round 10 in Austria, Norris finished fourth. That could have been down to an anomaly. But the British driver backed that up in the following race by finishing second in the British Grand Prix seven days later.
Is McLaren now the real deal? We’ll get a better idea in Hungary this week.

Following on from Norris in the betting is Charles Leclerc at +1800, Carlos Sainz at +2200, and George Russell at +2800.

Full Hungarian Grand Prix betting can be found on our F1 odds table. And as you will see, there is a new name on the list of drivers this week. That of Daniel Ricciardo, with the Aussie back on the F1 grid this weekend, driving for AlphaTauri.

The odds we have used are from the best Formula 1 betting sites, ensuring you get the best value for money on your motor racing wagers.

Hungarian Grand Prix Betting Picks

We’ve already mentioned Max Verstappen. His win in the British Grand Prix was his sixth in succession and eighth of the season. And from the ten races held in 2023, Red Bull has won all ten of them.

So, the question with regards to our latest F1 betting picks is, do we stick with Verstappen or not? Verstappen is the obvious choice, but he’s not great value at -280, and his run will end one week soon.

We don’t want to be picking him to win at those odds, only to see him crash out of the race and cost you money.

So what do we bet on as an alternative? Sergio Perez is the only other driver to beat Verstappen this season. But the Mexican’s form has been poor in recent weeks.

As we alluded to earlier, it’s possible to wager on all of Perez, Alonso, Hamilton, Norris, Leclerc, Sainz, and Russell, and still profit if any of those drivers wins. But if Verstappen wins, it would be a costly bet.

It is an option, as Verstappen will fail to win one week. But if you’re going to follow that route, all the named drivers have to be at odds of +1000 or greater (which they are this week), and you would need to be very careful with your stakes.

Our Pick

Another option for betting on the Hungarian Grand Prix is to look at alternative markets. And one bet we like the look of is in the top three finish betting. In this market, Verstappen is a ridiculous -600, with Sergio Perez at -125 and Alonso at -110.

Outside of the three favorites, Lewis Hamilton is at +120, and Lando Norris is at +250. Lando Norris has finished fourth and second in his previous two races, and we believe that makes him a good value betting pick for a place on the podium in the Hungarian Grand Prix.

And if you’re feeling bullish about Norris and feel like Verstappen might come unstuck this weekend, then why not have a small side wager on the Brit to win the race?
