2023 MotoGP Season Preview

This won’t be your ordinary MotoGP season. No, no, there are actually many new additions to the normal season — made in part to keep up with other motorsports that are growing in popularity at the expense of MotoGP. Let’s start our preview of the 2023 MotoGP season with a snapshot of those changes:

As we said earlier, it’s 21 different races rounding out the calendar, two of which are first-time events. There’s the Kazakhstani Grand Prix in early July. Kazakhstan will become the 30th country to host a MotoGP race since 1949. A brand-new 4,495-metre circuit was created for the event. The brains behind the design is German architect Hermann Tilke, who also had a hand in the designs of tracks like Sepang, MotorLand Aragon, and COTA, among others.

Addition number two is the Indian Grand Prix in September. The race goes down at the Buddh International Circuit, which opened in 2009. Also designed by Tilke, this track has a length of 5.137 kilometers with 16 corners — all of which run clockwise.

But perhaps the biggest addition to MotoGP are sprint races. Not just a few add-ons either. No, every single weekend will feature a sprint race on Saturday. The half-the-distance races will award half points. So for example, the winner notches 12 points all the way down to one point for ninth place. Sprint races now afford bettors double the betting opportunities on race weekends.

When it comes to the actual factory teams, they’re new faces in new places worth calling out. Enea Bastianini is the newest teammate of defending world champion Francesco Bagnaia at Ducati Lenovo Team. The two Italians will attempt to bring a fourth consecutive Constructor’s title to Ducati this season. Moreover, 2020 champion Joan Mir is Honda’s newest member. He’ll join fellow Spaniard Marc Marquez to bring Honda back to glory after a few rough years while Marquez battled injuries.

Best Bets To Win 2023 MotoGP World Championship

With a sport like MotoGP — where one disastrous injury could end your season within seconds (just ask Marquez) — you need to make at least two bets on the 2023 MotoGP world championship winner. That’s our approach to this futures bet, and we’re convinced the bet to make is on Ducati in general.

The duo of Bastianini and Bagnaia will likely be their own biggest competition. At pre-tests in Portugal, Ducati’s GP23 bike was unrivaled. It helped Bagnaia set a lap record with a 1m37.968s on the second day. Every other team and machine is playing catch-up as far as we’re concerned. Plus, with so sprint races being so critical this season, having top-end speed matters even more in the shortened-down competitions.

Being the reigning champion, we give a slight advantage to Bagnaia here. However, we’re completely comfortable throwing money on both Italians here and just letting the better man win out — and cash our futures ticket in the process. Bank on ‘em each!

How To Watch 2023 MotoGP Races On TV?

All MotoGP races will air on television in the United States. NBC and CNBC have exclusive TV rights for airing MotoGP. However, with the majority of the competitions taking place in Europe and Asia, most races aren’t actually aired live on TV because of the drastic time differences. The races are instead shown on tape delay — not ideal since you’ll likely know the results.

If there are any dates on the calendar you want to circle now, it’s the ones shown below. Here are a few highlight races to look out for in 2023:

  • April 15 — Grand Prix of the Americas
  • May 13 — Grand Prix de France (1000th Grand Prix in MotoGP history)
  • July 8 — Kazakhstani Grand Prix (inaugural race)
  • August 5 — British Grand Prix (first race after the summer break)
  • September 23 — Grand Prix of India (inaugural race)
  • November 25 — Valencia Grand Prix (season finale)
