MotoGP riders are back from the summer break and the first stop is the famed Silverstone Circuit on August 7. Here’s a complete betting preview of the looming race, plus our own picks to win the 2022 British Grand Prix. You’ll want to read this for expert betting advice on the race.
Unfortunately, top-used MotoGP betting sites have yet to release British GP odds. At the moment, only world championship future lines remain up. However, you can expect to see all the usual suspects favored to win once lines are posted (which should be soon):
2022 MotoGP Mid-Season Review
The most recent MotoGP race was way back on June 26 at Assen. Given the long break — for riders and bettors alike — it would pay to review what’s happened in MotoGP mid-way through the 2022 season. It’s safe to say it’s been eventful year with five different race winners and 13 podium takers. Only nine races remain in the 20-event season.
So far, it’s been Fabio Quartararo once again dominating the grid. The 2021 world champion is on pace to repeat in 2022. With three wins and six podiums, Quartararo is up to 172 points in the standings. Not only is the Frenchman first, but he has a comfortable lead. The next-closest rider in the standings is Aleix Espargaro with 151 points. Espargaro only has one win but he’s made up for that with insane consistency this season. Get this, the Spaniard has finished outside of the top five only two times in the first 11 races.
It really feels like the championship race is really down to Quartararo or Espargaro — that’s it. There’s a huge gap between them and the rest of the grid. In third place is Johann Zarco at 114 points (58 behind Quartararo and 37 clear of Espargaro). In fourth and fifth standing are the Francesco Bagnaia and Enea Bastianini, who own 106 and 105 points, respectively. It’ll take a small miracle for the latter three riders (or anyone else in the grid) to catch the top two.
Betting Picks For 2022 British Grand Prix
We’re going to be taking two different riders as our picks to win the 2022 British Grand Prix. That’s our usual approach to MotoGP, which tends to be more “up in the air” than Formula 1. Here’s the two riders we’re eying with bets to win the race:
Who else, right? As we’ve eluded to before, Quartararo has paced the entire grid. However, most of that has come as of late. After a slow start, the reigning champion has caught fire. He’s won three of the previous seven races and has all the momentum in the world coming out of the summer break.
That hasn’t stopped rumors to swirl that Quartararo is flirting with F1. There’s chatter that he’s lined up for a test at Mercedes, home of the seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton (who may be close to retirement). We don’t sense this rumor (if true or not) will be a distraction for Quartararo, who is hyper-focused on winning back-to-back world titles anyway.
We said it before but we’ll say it again: this season is either going to be Quartararo or Espargaro — that’s it. The same thing applies at the next grand prix. Who remembers when Espargaro dominated qualifying here a year ago with the fastest session lap? It resulted in a third-place finish in 2021. All it takes is for one mistake from Quartararo to open the door for a Espargaro victory, hence the bet here.
