NASCAR Phoenix Top Picks – Larson Favored Again?
One of the crazy things about gauging the NASCAR Ruoff Mortgage 500 from Phoenix is this. Does Hendrick Motor Sports and Kyle Larson reign supreme on Sunday?
The Phoenix event will indeed have practice and qualifying back to back again. The practices earlier on Saturday, qualifying later on Saturday, and then the race on Sunday. Slowly, practices and qualifying are featuring less spins aside from that Kyle Busch wreck in Las Vegas last Saturday. That forced the younger Busch to his backup car. Despite that, he did finish fourth in the end.

The Next-Gen car has not been a problem for Kyle Larson, however. Larson, after the Daytona 500, won at Fontana, and then finished second in Las Vegas. The only reason why Larson did not win on Sunday was “pilot error”. Those were his words not ours. If he had not misjudged speed in the pits and gotten a speeding penalty, we would be talking about a potential third win in a row here.
The Larson betting favorite angle is getting a bit old as this is the third week in a row going into the Ruoff Mortgage 500. Again, watching a video of the first previous races in 2022 revealed some things. When one adds in previous NASCAR Phoenix races, the bigger picture starts to come into focus some. No wonder why Larson is +275 on MyBookie. However, it is Chase Elliott at +500 and Joey Logano at +1175 that could as good a shot. Right now, Larson is the top pick.
NASCAR Phoenix – Longer Shot Picks?
Again, here is where we’re making 2022 NASCAR Betting Longer Shot picks for Phoenix — not one, but a few. Why? That is simple. The idea of hedging a little bit with the eyes on a couple of other drivers who could crash the party. Always bet small (wager fractions of a unit) when making other modest bets aided by the futures.
After all, these feature bets with not the shortest of odds. For example, Joey Logano is at +1175. Tyler Reddick is at +2300 and could be one to look at if he fixes his sleeping leg problem. Also, Christopher Bell (+2500) was one of the better drivers last week before issues and Ross Chastain (+6200) led the most laps (83).
2022 NASCAR Phoenix Outlook For Other Notables
After what occurred last week at Las Vegas, some notables head to Phoenix with big questions for the Ruoff Mortgage 500. The 312 lap race really only goes 312 miles (technically 500 kilometers). The key with Phoenix is what we call progressive banking. One will notice the turns are mostly 8-9 degree banked which is modest. Turns 3 and 4 are 10-11 degrees which is still not too bad.
Some notables like Kevin Harvick and Denny Hamlin could see their fortunes improve this week. Hamlin was still a bit slow last week at Las Vegas but Hamlin has an average finish of 6.00 in his last half-dozen appearances on the track. That includes a win and five top-fives. Kevin Harvick has been close at times but is the only active driver to have six straight top-ten results. Then, there is Kyle Busch who won twice not so long ago.
This race should level the playing field quite nicely. Even Martin Truex Jr. has a shot here as he won the March race here last year. However, one gets the feeling to maybe go for a longer shot perhaps? One inherent pattern with seeing 10-15 possible cautions again is that longer run racing may not be there at the finish for a third consecutive week. Looking more toward drivers on shorter run strength might be key. Among these notables, Kyle Busch may be the most determined for the W.
Chase Elliott Winning The NASCAR Phoenix Race?
Yes, there is someone who could surprise modestly. It is Chase Elliott who is second among drivers for the NASCAR Phoenix race. Elliott swoops in at +500 and one may want to explore this later in the week especially if others display good speed in testing. The No. 9 was again pretty fast last week in Las Vegas but could not truly contend like many had expected.
Elliott, other than one unlucky result, has been excellent at the NASCAR Phoenix venue. That bodes well for his chances at the Ruoff Mortgage 500. In the past six races, the driver has led more than 18% of the laps. Only Joey Logano, has led more in that span. There is a growing sense that Elliott and Hendricks has Phoenix marked. Kyle Larson used the same methodology to win the NASCAR series title last year.

Is this the week for Chase Elliott? If one is looking for a driver to figure it out this week, it might be him. Yes, the hot-headed driver can be a risky choice. However, he is one of our choices for Sunday.
