Best NCAAB Bets Of December 9, 2021

A number of “heavyweights” are in action Thursday night in the world of college basketball. Some of those games make the cut for our best NCAAB bets of December 9, 2021 — read this for free betting advice to attack the busy night of hoops!

Over/Under 138.5 Points: No. 1 Purdue Boilermakers vs. Rutgers Scarlet Knights

Under 138.5 points scored-110-110

The nation’s top-ranked team has been big betting favorites at the top college basketball betting sites most of this season, including this one as Purdue is favored by 12 points in the spread. However, we’re more attracted to the Boilermakers-Knights over/under — not the spread or moneyline.

Whereas Purdue has the nation’s most efficient offense, per the KenPom ratings (121 points per 100 possessions), Rutgers is nowhere close to that. In fact, the Scarlett Knights feature one of the most anemic offenses among major college programs. In the same efficiency metric, its offense averages 103 points per 100 possessions. Those struggles have been compounded by the loss of Geo Baker. A hamstring injury has kept the senior guard out of the lineup as of late.

We sense the Scarlett Knights are due for another woeful offensive performance against unbeaten Purdue. While the Boilermakers can score plenty and often, it won’t be enough to hit 139 points with Rutgers failing to “hold their end of the bargain” offensively. Give us the under here!

Against The Spread: No. 7 Texas Longhorns at No. 23 Seton Hall Pirates

If there’s one college hoops game on Thursday that’s getting heavy betting volume at best-rated sportsbooks, it’ll likely be this one. This is the only matchup that features a pair of top-25 teams against one another and cause of that, the against-the-line spread is a virtual toss-up between Seton Hall and Texas:

TeamBetOnlineBovada
Texas spread (-2.5)-110-110
Seton Hall spread (+2.5)-110-110

We’re going to be blunt and say we love that the Pirates are “battle-hardened” already. What do we mean by that? Well, they’ve already played top-end programs like Michigan (a 67-65 win for Seton Hall) and Ohio State (a 79-76 defeat). The Pirates have shown they can hang with the “big boys.”

Texas, on the other hand, is less tested. They were routed by 12 points by Gonzaga last month and aside from that, have mostly beat up on “cupcake” programs. While we love the Longhorns balanced roster, when you haven’t competed regularly against quality competition, you are more prone to being blindsided – especially on the road. With a frenzied crowd and mentally-confident team, our bet is with Seton Hall to pull off the minor upset (we’re taking the spread just to give us an extra “cushion”).

Against The Spread: Iowa Hawkeyes vs. No. 17 Iowa State Cyclones

TeamBetOnlineBovada
Iowa spread (-3.5)-110-110
Iowa State spread (+3.5)-110-110

Rivalry game anyone? State bragging rights are on the line when these two inter-state teams duel it out. Bet this game’s against-the-spread line, not only for its betting value but its entertainment value too — you’ll want to watch the intensity of this heated matchup with action on it!

This feels like a “prove it” game for the Cyclones. They’ve been the biggest surprise of the young NCAA season, jumping out to an 8-0 start after a two-win season a year ago. Head Coach T.J. Otzelberge has imbued the team with defensive tenacity, which has been the key from the “overnight” turnaround.

Then again, the Hawkeyes possess an offense that’ll put Otzelberge’s schemes to the “real” test. They rank fifth nationally in offensive efficiency (118.2) and are led by Keegan Murray (averaging 23.9 points per game so far). Murray is one of the few “take the game over” type of players in college basketball.

This early in the season, we think Iowa’s offense will be just too much for the still-improving Iowa State. The Cyclones, despite its unblemished mark, are still mostly made up of freshmen and transfers that are still “gelling” on the court. That’ll be its undoing versus a Hawkeyes team well-versed in its system.

Over/Under 130 Points: Grand Canyon Antelopes at Arizona State Sun Devils

OutcomeBetOnlineBovada
Over 130 points scored-110-110
Under 130 points scored-110-110

We might as well call this the “Holland Woods revenge” game. The one-time Sun Devil is playing his former team on Thursday night and the natural “chip on the shoulder” style he’ll be playing with should be able to push this past the modest 130 point total.

Woods spent last season with Arizona State, starting 12 games before transferring to Grand Canyon. So far, the move has paid dividends. Woods is averaging the second-most points on the team (13.4) and the Antelopes are off to its best start since jumping to Division I (8-1). Given all the emotions this game will feature (including Grand Canyon “proving itself” with a tried-and-true state program), we think points will be easier to come by. Knowing that, we’re taking the over!
