The ACC Tournament is one of the top postseason events on the NCAA Basketball schedule. This year’s version of the tournament begins on Tuesday, March 8 and runs through Saturday, March 12. The Barclays Center in Brooklyn plays host to the event this year.
As always, the ACC tournament is important for teams hoping to make it into the NCAA Tournament. Some of the teams looking to make an impression in the 2022 ACC tourney are Notre Dame, North Carolina, Miami, Wake Forest and, of course, Duke. Wake Forest begins play on Wednesday, March 9 in the second round. Duke, Miami, Notre Dame and North Carolina don’t see action until the quarterfinals of Thursday, March 10.

Duke
The Duke Blue Devils are the No. 1 team in the ACC and the No. 5 team in the AP Poll. With their 26-5 record, the Blue Devils are the top seed in the ACC tournament. The team should be inspired to play their best in the tournament after dropping their final home game — and coach Mike Krzyzewski’s final career game at Cameron Indoor Stadium — to the North Carolina Tar Heels by a score of 94-81. There is a chance for a rematch between those teams as North Carolina is the No. 3 seed and not in the same bracket as Duke. If they meet, it will be in the ACC Championship game.
Duke could have an interesting path to the championship game. Their Blue Devils could face FSU in the opening game. Duke and FSU split their 2022 season series. In the second game of the tourney, coach Krzyzewski’s club could face Miami or Wake Forest. Miami defeated Duke in their only meeting this year and the Blue Devils have two wins in two games against Wake Forest this year.
Duke is the most talented team in the ACC. The only other ACC team ranked in the AP poll is North Carolina at No. 25.
North Carolina
The North Carolina Tar Heels are the No. 2 team in the ACC and the No. 25 team in the AP Poll. They enter the ACC tournament as the No. 3 seed behind Duke and the No. 2 seeded Notre Dame Fighting Irish. North Carolina enters the tourney on a five-game winning streak. They have a 23-8 record on the season.
North Carolina made a statement in beating Duke on Saturday, if they can make it to the championship game and defeat the Blue Devils a second time in under two weeks, it will be a huge statement heading into March Madness. The Tar Heels have to worry about Notre Dame, having lost to the Fighting Irish by a score of 78-73 in January. North Carolina has wins over the other teams in its bracket.
Notre Dame
Notre Dame is tied with North Carolina for the No. 2 spot in the ACC with a 23-8 record. The Fighting Irish enter the ACC tourney as the No. 2 seed behind Duke. Notre Dame enters the tourney on a 2-1 run with wins over Georgia Tech and Pittsburgh. The team’s loss came to Florida State, who are not in Notre Dame’s bracket in the ACC tournament.
Notre Dame is a bit of a dark horse in the ACC tourney because of how badly Duke beat them when the clubs met in January, 57-43. Notre Dame has the skill to make it to the championship game, but they will struggle if Duke makes it out of the other bracket.
ACC Tournament Pick
Duke won’t have an easy path to the championship — and they could be upset at any stage of the tournament — but I think they will be inspired to send Krzyzewski out with a 16th ACC Tournament championship in his final year of his coaching career.
