LA Kings to be crowned with the 2023-24 NHL Presidents’ Trophy

  • The New York Rangers (+375) are slight favorites to capture the Presidents’ Trophy in 2023-24
  • Colorado (+400), Boston (+600) and Los Angeles (+750) are also in the mix to finish with the most points
  • The award is presented to the team that finishes with the NHL’s best regular season record

Only eight of the 36 winners of the Presidents’ Trophy have gone on to win the Stanley Cup. Last year, the Boston Bruins were the latest victim of its curse, becoming the eighth team in hockey history to be bounced out of the first round of the playoffs after finishing atop the regular-season standings.

What NHL team is poised to claim the cursed trophy this season? Before we check the odds and make our picks, here’s where you can find the best Stanley Cup betting sites and the top betting sites for NHL hockey in 2023-24.

Rangers favored

Artemi Panarin is on pace to reach 100 points for the first time in his career. Thanks to the “Breadman”, the Rangers (+375) have a 16-4-1 record with the best points percentage (78.6%) in hockey. New York is off to a hot start under new head coach Peter Laviolette, who won a championship with the Hurricanes in 2006 and has taken two other clubs to the Stanley Cup Final.

With Igor Shesterkin between the pipes and Adam Fox patrolling the blueline, the Blueshirts have top-flight talent at every position.

Presidents’ Trophy contenders

Colorado (+400) was 15-6-1 with a 70.5 points percentage. Cale Makar has taken yet another leap in his fifth season for the Avalanche. The 2022 Norris Trophy winner is third in the NHL in points (34) with a +18 plus-minus while averaging over 24 minutes of ice time per game.

Boston (+600) is only behind the Rangers in terms of points percentage (75.0%) after a recent three-game losing skid where they gave up 17 goals. The Bruins set a single-season record for regular-season victories in 2022-23. But another Presidents’ Trophy would be shocking given they’re without Patrice Bergeron and a handful of other stars from last year’s team.

Lurking out West?

Dallas (+700) looks like one of the deepest teams in hockey. Roope Hintz, Matt Duchene and Wyatt Johnson are a strong trifecta at center ice and Joe Pavelski is averaging a point per game at age 39. And don’t forget about Las Vegas (+900). The reigning Stanley Cup champions are off to an impressive start (15-5-4) considering they were still playing hockey in mid-June.

Lucky Longshot

Vancouver (+4000) is off to a blazing 15-8-1 start thanks to Brock Boeser, who leads the NHL with 17 goals, and defenseman Quinn Hughes, who sits just behind Makar with 33 points in 24 games. The Canucks are just 4-5 in their last nine games, but their long odds might make them worth a wager.

Best Bet

Los Angeles (+750) is 9-0 on the road this season with the second-best goal differential (+30) in the league. All the advanced analytics love the Kings, who aren’t even getting that much from prized off-season acquisition Pierre-Luc Dubois thus far.
