- What: 2022 Cazoo UK Snooker Championship
- When: November 12, 2022 through November 20, 2022
- Where: York Barbican in England
The 2022 Cazoo UK Snooker Championship runs from November 12 through November 20, 2022. The event takes place at York Barbican in England. The event is the first of the three Triple Crown tournaments in Snooker and the fifth ranking event of the 2022-23 snooker season.
Last year, China’s Zhao Xintong won the tournament, defeating Luca Brecel 10-5. The 25-year-old had a good year in 2021, winning the UK title as well as the German Masters. He is currently the No. 4 player on the 1-year snooker ranking list with £ 361,500. Zhao trails notable figures Ronnie O’Sullivan, Neil Robertson and Judd Trump on that list.
This year marks a change in the UK Championship. Where in previous years, all 128 players would begin the tournament in a flat draw, in 2022, the top 16 players in the world will automatically be seeded in the round of 32 players, where they will face the top 16 players from the initial pool of players.
“This guarantees a star-studded line-up for the final stages, while the qualifying event itself also creates drama and great storylines as 128 players battle for 16 coveted spots at the fabulous York Barbican venue,” WST Chairman Steve Dawson said.

Judd Trump
Judd Trump won his first UK Snooker Championship in 2011. Since then he has made it back to the finals twice, but he has failed to finish in the No. 1 spot. Trump fell to Ronnie O’Sullivan in 2014 and Neil Robertson in 2020. Last year, Trump made it to the Last 32 where Matthew Selt defeated him 6-3.
Trump is currently the No. 2 ranked player in the world behind O’Sullivan. In May, Trump and O’Sullivan met in the Snooker World Championship Finals. O’Sullivan best Trump 18-13 in the hotly contested matchup.
Trump is the No. 3 player on the one-year rankings list with £ 436,000 in winnings.
Neil Robertson
Neil Robertson has made the finals of the UK Snooker Championship three times and each time he walked away with the title. The 40-year-old Robertson has wins in 2013, 2015 and 2020. As the defending champion in 2021, Robertson suffered a shocking defeat, losing in the first round of the tournament to amateur player John Astley.
Despite that setback, Robertson is considered the greatest Australian snooker player of all time. He has one World Championship to his name, as well as two Masters’ titles. He is the only player from outside of the United Kingdom to have completed snooker’s Triple Crown.
Although he failed to defend his UK Championship in 2021, Robertson had a great 2021-22 season. In addition to winning The Masters, he claimed victory in the English Open, the Players Championship and the Tour Championship, while finishing as the runner-up in the World Grand Prix.
Robertson is the No. 2 ranked player on the one-year-ranking list with £ 441,000.
Ronnie O’Sullivan
Ronnie O’Sullivan has not made the most finals in the history of the UK Snooker Championship. Steve Davis and Stephen Hendry have each made the finals 10 times, but no one has won more than O’Sullivan. With eight trips to the UK Snooker Championship finals, the 46-year-old O’Sullivan has won seven titles. O’Sullivan won his first UK Championship in 1993. His most recent win came in 2018.
O’Sullivan made it to the quarter-finals of the 2021 UK Snooker Championship, but lost 6-5 to Kyren Wilson.
The winner of the 2022 World Snooker Championship, O’Sullivan is the No. 1 ranked player on the one-year rankings list with £ 772,500.
The English snooker player has won a long list of titles and is considered one of the greatest to ever play the game.
Our pick
As the odds indicate, this is a tight race between the top three players in the game today. With that being said, it’s hard to go against Ronnie O’Sullivan. O’Sullivan had a good year in 2021-22. It was the first year since 2018-19 where he won more than one ranking tournament. In addition to his win at the World Championship over Trump, O’Sullivan claimed his second World Grand Prix title with a victory over Robertson.
Pick: Ronnie O’Sullivan to win the 2022 UK Snooker Championship.
