- What: 2022 CFL Grey Cup
- When: November 20, 2022
- Where: Mosaic Stadium in Regina, Saskatchewan
The Canadian Football League is about to start preseason games for the 2022 season. The first of those games takes place on May 23 when the Winnipeg Blue Bombers face the Saskatchewan Roughriders. The Blue Bombers are the defending Grey Cup Champions. Winnipeg captured the 108th edition of the Grey Cup when they downed the Hamilton Tiger Cats 33-25 on December 21, 2021 at Tim Horton’s Field in Hamilton, Ontario. It was the 12th Grey Cup victory for the Blue Bombers in 26 trips to the championship game for the Blue Bombers. Saskatchewan fell in the Grey Cup game for the 15th time. The Roughriders have four Grey Cup wins, the last one coming in 2013.
There was no CFL season in 2020 due to COVID-19. With that, the Blue Bombers, who won the Grey Cup in 2019, look to make it three in a row in 2022.

Winnipeg Blue Bombers
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers are the favorites to win the 109th Grey Cup and that should come as a surprise to no one. The team went 11-3 last season and was a perfect 7-0 at home. Winnipeg scored a CFL best 361 points over the season and held their opponents to 188 points. No other team allowed fewer than the 244 that the Hamilton Tiger Cats allowed. It should be noted that the Blue Bombers rested their starters in the final two games of the season, games they lost.
Winnipeg’s average point difference in their wins last season was 12.4 and they gave up an average of 13.4 points and 287.6 yards per game.
The one loss the Blue Bombers might feel is leading rusher Andrew Harris, who left the team in free agency. Harris rushed for a team-high 623 yards in 2021 and scored three touchdowns.
Hamilton Tiger Cats
The Hamilton Tiger Cats finished the 2021 CFL season with a record of 8-6. The team scored 312 points and held their opposition to a respectable 244 points, which put them second in the league behind Winnipeg.
The Tiger Cats made it to the final last season, but fell to Winnipeg 33-25. Hamilton has not claimed the Grey Cup since 1999.
The Hamilton roster will look different this season with Ja’Gared Davis, Jeremiah Masoli and Brandon Banks leaving via free agency. With that, Dane Evans will be the starting QB for the Tiger Cats in 2022. Evans had a 64.5 percent completion rate and 787 yards for Hamilton last year. Davis led the team with six sacks and Banks was fourth on the club with 474 receiving yards.
Despite the losses, the Tiger Cats have a good chance of making it back to the Grey Cup game.
The Saskatchewan Roughriders ended the 2021 CFL season with a 9-5 record. The team scored 290 points and allowed 284.
Saskatchewan has a solid quarterback in Cody Fajardo, who threw for 14 touchdowns and 2,970 yards in 2021. With Fajardo in the mix as well as receivers Duke Williams and Shaq Evans, the Roughriders offense should be sound. However, the team’s defense, which suffered some notable losses, needs to answer some questions this season.
Unless something has changed in Winnipeg, the pick is for the Blue Bombers to win the 109th Grey Cup.
Pick: Winnipeg Blue Bombers to win 2022 Grey Cup.
