The PDC World Darts Championship holds its 30th edition in 2023. Ninety-six of the top darts players in the world compete at the Alexandra Palace in London, England between December 14, 2022 and January 2, 2023 in the hope of taking home the PDC World Darts Championship.
Peter Wright took home the 2022 PDC World Darts Championship title. The victory was Wright’s second career PDC Championship victory. He also took home the title in 2020. Wright looks to become the first back-to-back champion since Gary Anderson won in 2015 and 2016. Wright failed in his previous bid to win in two consecutive years when he was eliminated in the third round of play. Gerwyn Price defeated Anderson in the 2021 finals.
Michael Smith was the runner-up in 2021. Smith’s second place finish marked the second time he finished in that spot. He was also the runner-up in 2019 to Michael van Gerwen.

Michael van Gerwen
Michael van Gerwen has something to prove. He was the third seed in the 2022 PDC World Championship behind Gerwyn Price and Peter Wright, but he was forced to withdraw from the tournament after a positive COVID-19 test before the third round.
Van Gerwen is currently in second place in the Cazoo Premier League Darts standings with 31 points and 19 matches won. He is at the top of the PDC ProTour Order of Merit with £175,250 and third on the PDC Order of Merit at £663,500.
Van Gerwen has wins at the 2014, 2017 and 2019 PDC World Championships and runner-up finishes in 2013 and 2020. He is recognized as one of the best players of all time.
Gerwyn Price
Gerwyn Price has made one trip to the PDC World Championship finals. The 37-year-old from Wales accomplished that feat in 2021 and he went on to win the title in that year. Last year he was eliminated in the quarterfinal.
Price is currently in fifth place in the Cazoo Premier League Darts standings with 18 points and 10 matches won. He is in the second spot in the PDC ProTour Order of Merit with £139,500 and Price also holds the second spot in the PDC Order of Merit at £1,191,250.
In addition to winning the 2021 PDC World Championship, Price also reached the final of the 2021 World Grand Prix.
Peter Wright
In 2022, Peter Wright joined an elite group of dart players. With his win in the PDC World Championship, he became one of six players to win multiple PFC world titles. This year he looks to join an even smaller group, those who have claimed back-to-back championships. Phil Taylor, Adrian Lewis and Gary Anderson are the only players who have won in consecutive years. As the odds indicate, Wright is a serious contender to join that group.
Wright is in fourth place in the Cazoo Premier League Darts standings with 20 points and 11 matches won. As for the PDC ProTour Order of Merit, Wright is in the sixth spot with £94,500. He holds down the top position in the PDC Order of Merit with £1,204,000.
