While the No. 1 ranked snooker player in the world, the legendary Ronnie O’Sullivan was eliminated in the Round of 32 by No. 32 ranked Gary Wilson, other top players Neil Robertson, Mark Selby, Judd Trump and Kyren Wilson remain in the hunt to win the 2022 Scottish Open. Robertson, Selby, Trump and Wilson are all ranked in the top-10 according to the World Snooker Tour.

Neil Robertson
The 2010 World Champion, Neil Robertson, made his 2022-23 season debut at the Hong Kong Masters. The 40-year-old recently said he will not play every tournament like he once did. “’I’m playing for fun now. I’ve got a young family now, so I don’t need to play in every tournament these days. My family is really important to me. They’re my inspiration to win.”
Robertson, who is the No. 4 player in the world, has played in four events this year. In two, the Northern Ireland Open and the Hong Kong Masters, he’s made it to the semi-final round. In the others, the UK Championship and Champion of Champions, he was eliminated in the first round.
Robertson has a tough draw in the quarter-finals of the Scottish Open where he faces Mark Selby. Selby eliminated Robertson in the Northern Ireland open 5-2.
Judd Trump
The No. 3 player in the world, Judd Trump has not won an event this year. He came close, finishing as a runner-up in The Masters, where he lost to O’Sullivan, but outside of that has not gotten past the quarter-finals in any other event during the 2022-23 season.
Trump faces the No. 57 ranked Thepchaiya Un-Nooh in the quarter-finals of the Scottish Open. The 37-year-old Un-Nooh is having his best event of the year. He defeated the No. 5 ranked Mark Allen and the No. 31 ranked Jamie Jones to get this far in the Scottish Open.
If Trump plays up to his abilities in the quarter-final round, he should beat Un-Nooh and move on to face the winner of the Kyren Wilson and Gary Wilson matchup.
Mark Selby
The No. 2 player in the world, Mark Selby is looking for his first event win since he won the World Championship in May 2021. Since that victory, Selby has not made a final. He made it to the semi-final of the 2021 World Grand Prix and the semis in the 2022 Champion of Champions, but he has not made the finals since that 2021 triumph.
Selby defeated ranked players Robert Milkins (No. 28) and Jack Lisowski (No. 10) to get to the quarter-final of the Scottish Open, but he has a tough match in that round against Neil Robertson. However, as mentioned above, Selby has a win over Robertson this year.
Kyren Wilson
The 30-year-old Kyren Wilson is the No. 8 ranked snooker player in the world. Wilson has an event win in the 2022-23 snooker season. He topped the field in the 2022 European Masters in August, beating Barry Hawkins to win that event. However, outside of that, Wilson has not moves past the second round in any event this year.
Wilson faces the No. 32 ranked Gary Wilson in the quarter-final. The winner moves on to face the victor of the matchup between Judd Trump and Thepchaiya Un-Nooh.
Our pick
This is a difficult pick. Any of the eight remaining players could win, but I think experience and high-level play make the players ranked inside the top 10 the favorites to win the 2022 Scottish Open. Looking at the players left and the potential draws for the remainder of the event, I think the best bet for the 2022 Scottish Open is Judd Trump.
Pick: Judd Trump to win the 2022 Scottish Open.
