The Number One Contender: Spain (Odds: TBA)
The winners of the inaugural women’s Futsal Championship in 2019, Spain opens up the final four as the favorite to repeat. As the Group Four winner, Spain put together an undefeated mark in their qualifying rounds by knocking off Italy, Sweden and Slovakia. With a +19 goal differential, the Spanish have relied on their lockdown defense (they only allowed one goal during qualifying) to boost them to a title. Spain is led by veteran goalkeeper Silvia Aguete and hot shot defender Noelia Montero.

Like the men’s side of the sport, Portugal stands as the biggest rival to Spain’s domination of the sport. With a +26 goal differential in the qualifying rounds, Portugal led all countries in terms of having the most dominant run prior to the tournament finals. In 2019, Portugal finished as the runner-up to Spain and was blanked 4-0 in the championship. They will be looking to avenge their loss in the 2022 edition. Portugal’s squad is led by forward Ana Azedo who is first on the team in caps at 67. Another player to watch is goalkeeper Naty who has 60 caps to her name.

As the bronze medal winner from the 2019 tournament, Russia is looking to unseat the traditional powers above. In the 2019 third place match, Russia was able to knock off Ukraine in a penalty shoot-out to notch a 3-2 victory. In the qualifying rounds, the Russians were also ahead of the Ukrainians with a +13 goal differential. The group one winners, Russia allowed only one goal during their qualifying rounds against Hungary, Belarus and the Netherlands. With a 9-0 final match thrashing of Belarus, Russia has a hot hand going into the final four.
Final contender: Ukraine (Odds: TBA)
The group three winner, Ukraine has a tough road in front of them if they want to lock down the 2022 title. As the last team to qualify for the championship round, Ukraine still has some firepower they can unload on an unsuspecting opponent. The squad finished with a +11 goal differential in the qualifying rounds but allowed the most goals of any of the final qualifying teams. While they might not have the same kind of starpower as the other teams on this list, the Ukrainians should not be overlooked.
