However, despite suffering significant compound fractures to both his tibia and fibula, along with smaller injuries to the ankle and foot, the 45-year-old seems to be recovering well and in good spirits.
While there is currently no timetable on when or if Tiger will be back on tour, let’s look at the latest odds on when he might return to play and use recent social media posts and firsthand accounts to make our best guess. The latest news on Tiger’s return
Tiger Woods posted an image of himself standing, with the help of crutches, on the course at his South Florida residence on April 23 with the caption: “My course is coming along faster than I am” and a smile emoji. Rory McIlroy also visited Woods’ home in March, saying afterwards, “When you hear of these things and you look at the car and you see the crash, it’s like, you think he’s going to be in a hospital bed for six months, but he was actually doing better than that.”
McIlroy even teased a potential Masters return, saying, “Broken bones heal, and he’s just got to take it step by step.“ But I know he’d love to be here, and I’m sure he’s going to put everything he has into trying to be ready to play here next year.”

Does that mean Tiger’s coming back? It’s definitely still unclear at this point. Dr. Robert Glatter, an emergency physician at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City, told USA Today: “We don’t know. But it’s going to be a long rehab period and it’s going to be painful. We can assume that he’s going to go through bumps and twists and turns.
“It’s really unclear. But at least he has life right now.”
Will Tiger be back in 2022?
Oddsmakers at Bovada believe it’s a toss up whether Tiger plays in a PGA tournament in 2022, listing it at EVEN odds, and put the chances of him competing at a Major next year at +200 odds. With the last major of the year, the 2022 British Open Championship, scheduled for mid-July, that would give Woods more than 14 months from now to recover from his injuries.
Odds are at +300 he will be in the field in Augusta – but that seems like a stretch given the 2022 Masters Tournament is scheduled to take place in April. We also wouldn’t be in a hurry to bet on Tiger winning the event at +4000 as his surprising triumph in 2019 is likely as close to a storybook ending as Woods will ever achieve.
