The Dallas Stars have bounced back. Last week it looked like the Vegas Golden Knights were poised to sweep the Stars in the 2023 NHL Western Conference Finals. With Vegas holding a 3-0 series lead and the Stars heading into Game 4 of the 2023 NHL playoff series without team captain Jamie Benn following his two-game suspension for cross-checking Mark Stone, things looked bleak for Dallas. However, following a 3-2 overtime win in Game 4 and a 4-2 regulation win in Game 4, the Stars have clawed their way back into the Western Conference Finals. Tonight, the team looks to even its series against the Golden Knights as the teams play Game 6 in Dallas.

Dallas found an unlikely hero in Game 4, as Ty Dellandrea, who had not played since May 13, scored two goals in the third period to give Dallas the Game 4 win. The goals were the first for Dellandrea since he put the puck in the net in Game 5 of the first round of the 2023 NHL playoffs on April 25. Veteran Joe Pavelski scored on the power play in OT in Game 3 to give Dallas the victory in that contest. The goal was Pavelski’s first of the series.

Vegas Golden Knights betting breakdown

The Vegas Golden Knights had a 3-0 series lead on the Dallas Stars in the 2023 NHL Western Conference Finals. Which, of course, means the team had four games to get one win. With the Stars triumphing in Games 3 and 4 of the series, that number has dropped to two games to get a win. With that, the pressure has ratcheted up a few notches for the Golden Knights as the series heads back to Dallas for Game 6.

Vegas had 24 giveaways in Game 5. The club only had seven giveaways in Game 4, which went into overtime. One thing Vegas needs to concentrate on heading into Game 6 of the Western Conference Finals is playing better with the puck. Another thing Vegas needs to avoid is allowing the Stars to score soon after Vegas nets a goal. Dallas quickly answered both Vegas goals in Game 5.

On a positive note, Vegas is still playing great team hockey. Of the 19 players who have suited up for the club during the series against the Stars, all but two have scored at least one point. Jonathan Marchessault has three goals and three assists to lead the team with six points the 2023 NHL Western Conference Finals.

Adin Hill has played well in net for Vegas in this series. He has a .931 save percentage and a 2.38 goals against average.

Dallas Stars betting breakdown

The Dallas Stars shook off a disastrous Game 3 loss to the Vegas Golden Knights. The most noteworthy performance in Game 4 belonged to goaltender Jake Oettinger, who was chased from the net less than 10 minutes into Game 3 after allowing three goals in 7:10. Oettinger followed that performance, the worst of his career, with 37 saves on 39 shots in Game 4 and 27 saves on 29 shots in Game 5. The Stars will be counting on Oettinger to be dialed in for Game 6 on home ice.

Jason Robertson has come alive for the Stars in this series. He has five goals and one assist for a team-leading six points. The team’s leading goal scorer in the regular season, Robertson, did not put the puck in the net during the second-round series against the Seattle Kraken. Also of note is that the Stars’ secondary scoring picked up in Games 4 and 5. Heading into Game 4, only eight Dallas players had at least one point in the series. After their wins in the past two games of the 2023 NHL Western Conference Finals, that number stands at 13 players with at least one point.

Stars captain Jamie Benn will return to the team tonight after serving his suspension for cross-checking Matt Stone in Game 3. Benn needs to play with an edge and be the team’s emotional leader. However, he can’t take, or be goaded into taking, silly penalties in Game 6.

Best bets for Vegas Golden Knights vs. Dallas Stars – Game 6

The Vegas Golden Knights did not play with a sense of urgency in Games 4 and 5 of the 2023 NHL Western Conference Finals. That is not likely to change when the playoff series returns to Dallas for Game 6. The expectation is that the Dallas Stars will be dialed in and focused for tonight’s game and will leave American Airlines Center with the series tied at three games each. The best bet in this game is to pick the Dallas Stars to win.

Pick: Dallas Stars to beat Vegas Golden Knights in Game 6 of the 2023 NHL Western Conference Finals.
