Toronto Maple Leafs betting breakdown

Scoring depth was an issue for the Toronto Maple Leafs last season. The team picked up Tyler Bertuzzi and Max Domi in the offseason to address that.  Bertuzzi had 30 points in 50 games, splitting last season with the Boston Bruins and Detroit Red Wings. As for Domi, he had 56 points in 80 games with the Chicago Blackhawks and Dallas Stars. Bertuzzi and Domi look to complement the Maple Leafs’ core offense, which consists of Auston Matthews, William Nylander, Mitch Marner, and John Tavares.

Ilya Samsonov has not played well this season. The team waived him and then loaned him to the Toronto Marlies of the AHL after he went unclaimed on waivers. Samsonov returned to the team on Sunday, giving up three goals on 23 shots. He has a 3.88 goals against average and a .863 save percentage. Martin Jones has picked up most of the starts as of late. He has a 2.30 GAA and a .924 SV%, but he surrendered four goals in his past two starts.

Nylander leads the team in scoring with 57 points. He is also tops on the team in assists with 36. Matthews is the team’s leading goal scorer with 33.

The Leafs are one of the top goal-scoring teams in the league, with an average of 3.51 goals per game. However, the club is in the bottom half of the NHL in goals allowed per game, with an average of 3.24. Toronto ranks sixth in the NHL in power play efficiency, scoring at a clip of 25.8 percent. The team’s penalty kill is 23rd in the league at 77.1 percent.

Edmonton Oilers betting breakdown

The Edmonton Oilers were expected to improve this season. Many pundits had the club picked to win the Pacific Division. Those picks seemed off the mark when the club opened the season with just two wins in their first 11 games. However, the Oilers have bounced back from that horrific start, and they might be the best team in the league since they ended a three-game losing skid on November 22. Since then, Edmonton is 18-3. They went 8-0 between November 24 and December 12, and are currently riding a 10-game winning streak heading into tonight’s home game against Toronto. The team’s fortunes turned shortly after replacing head coach Jay Woodcroft with Kris Knoblauch.

It’s not a shock to see Connor McDavid as the team’s leading scorer with 57 points and Leon Draisaitl as the second-leading scorer (45 points), but seeing Zach Hyman as the leading goal scorer on the club with 26 markers is a surprise. The 31-year-old Hyman had a career-high 36 goals in 2023. If he continues at his current pace, he will score 55 goals in 2024. McDavid leads the team with 41 assists.

Starting goalie Stuart Skinner has played 29 games for the Oilers in 2024. He has an 18-9-1 record to go with a 2.63 goals against and a .903 save percentage.

The Oilers are seventh in the NHL in power play percentage at 25.2 and 11th on the penalty kill at 81.0 percent. Edmonton scores the sixth most goals per game at 3.49 and gives up the 13th fewest goals, averaging 3.00 goals allowed per game.
