Dallas Stars betting breakdown

The Dallas Stars lost a big piece of their offensive puzzle in Game 1 of their series against the Minnesota Wild when Joe Pavelski took a monster hit from Wild defenseman Matt Dumba. As a result of that hit, Pavelski missed Game 2 and he is not traveling with the team to Minnesota, so he is likely out until at least Game 5, as he is now in the NHL’s concussion protocol. Pavelski had 28 goals and 77 assists in 82 games during the 2023 NHL regular season.

Roope Hintz scored his first NHL playoff hat trick in Game 2. The 26-year-old leads the team in playoff goals with four and is tied for first in playoff scoring with Miro Heiskanen with five points. Evgenii Dadonov is second on the team in goals with two.

Jake Oettinger has started both Dallas games in net. He has a 2.37 goals against average and a .919 save percentage. He made 45 saves in the team’s 3-2 OT loss in Game 1 and 23 saves in Tuesday’s win.

The Stars have five power play goals in the 2023 playoffs and are operating at 45.5 percent. They have given up two power play goals.

Minnesota Wild betting breakdown

Filip Gustavsson had a good Game 1 in net for the Minnesota Wild. He made 51 saves in his playoff debut and helped the team to a 3-2 double overtime victory. Gustavsson had a 1.20 goals against average for that game and a .962 save percentage. On the other hand, Marc-Andre Fleury had an abysmal Game 2 for the Wild, giving up seven goals on 31 shots and finishing his start with a 7.00 goals against average and a save percentage of .774. If the team was up in the air about it’s goaltending before Game 2, it shouldn’t be going forward. Gustavsson might not have the experience of Fleury, but he played excellently in Game 1, and he finished the 2023 NHL regular season on a 6-1-4 run with a 2.21 goals against average and a .933 save percentage. He deserves to start Game 3 and keep that job unless he falters badly.

Gustav Nyquist leads the Wild in playoff scoring with three points. No player on the Wild has scored more than one goal in the first two games of their series against the Stars. That’s not a bad thing, the more players who can contribute offensively, the better when playoff time rolls around.

Minnesota has two power play goals in this series, and their penalty kill is operating at a 54.5 percent rate, which could be better.
