Things could not have gone worse for the Dallas Stars during Tuesday’s NHL Western Conference Finals Game 3. Seventy-one seconds into the game, Jonathan Marchessault scored a goal for the Vegas Golden Knights. Forty-two seconds after that, Stars captain Jamie Benn was ejected from the game for cross-checking Mark Stone. Vegas scored on that power play. William Carrier made it 3-0 for Vegas at 7:10 of the first period. With that, Jake Oettinger’s night in the Dallas net ended. Dallas never got on the board. The game ended 4-0. That result put Vegas one game away from the 2023 Stanley Cup Finals.

The Golden Knights play Game 4 of the 2023 NHL Western Conference Finals tonight, Thursday, May 25, in Dallas. The 2023 NHL playoff series between the Golden Knights and the Stars is a rematch of the 2020 Western Conference Finals, which the Stars won in five games.

Vegas Golden Knights betting breakdown

The Vegas Golden Knights never allowed the Dallas Stars to set the tone in Game 3 of the NHL Western Conference Finals. With the team jumping to an early lead, Vegas put Dallas on their heels and kept them there for the entire game. Expect Vegas to be prepared for a fast and physical start from the Stars in Game 4, and if Game 3 was any indication, the Golden Knights will play disciplined and focused hockey. Their goal is one more win and a trip to the 2023 Stanley Cup Finals.

Jonathan Marchessault has two goals and three points in the 2023 NHL Western Conference Finals. He has nine points (five goals, four assists) in his past five games.

Adin Hill has been outstanding in net for Vegas in this series. His save percentage in his three starts against Dallas: .917, .929, and 1.00. He had 34 saves in his first career playoff shutout in Game 3.

Dallas Stars betting breakdown

Three things happened in the first period of Game 3 of the NHL Western Conference Finals. First, Dallas Stars captain Jamie Benn was given a game misconduct for a cross-check. Second, goaltender Jake Oettinger was pulled after giving up three goals. And third, forward Evgenii Dadonov left the ice with an injury and would not return. Later, fans littered the ice with debris, Max Domi picked up a 10-minute misconduct, and the Stars left the ice with a 4-0 loss. The Stars look to avoid being swept from the Western Conference Finals in front of a home crowd tonight.

“Yeah, I’m not sure you could script much worse,” Stars coach Peter DeBoer said after the Game 3 loss.

Jason Robertson and Roope Hintz each have three points in this series. If they cannot score, the Stars need other players on the team to pitch in. Only eight players on the Stars have a point in this series, and two of those players are Benn and, Dadonov. The Stars will be without Benn after the NHL suspended him for two games and Dadonov is not likely to play in Game 4 because of a lower-body injury.

Oettinger has not played well this series. His save percentage is just .812. He’s likely to get the start in Game 4, but don’t expect the coaching staff to give him much time in net if he falters early.

Best bets for Vegas Golden Knights vs. Dallas Stars – Game 4

Discipline was the key to Game 3 of the 2023 NHL Western Conference Finals. The Dallas Stars lacked it, while the Golden Knights played with the focus they needed to get the win. Dallas will likely be a more focused team in Game 4, but they will also be without two of their better offensive players in Benn and Dadonov, who were both playing more than 15 minutes per game for the club. With how things have played out in this series, the best bet is to pick the Vegas Golden Knights to sweep the Dallas Stars in the Western Conference Finals and move on to the 2023 Stanley Cup Finals.

Pick: Vegas Golden Knights to beat Dallas Stars in Game 4 of the 2023 NHL Western Conference Finals.
