Pick Australia for World Cup Glory

There are several teams outside the top four with the potential to upset the formbook this year and Australia looks like a good pick for World Cup glory.

Who do Bettors Favor?

Women’s World Cup Futures Betting Guide

This will be the ninth staging of the Women’s World Cup but it will be significantly different to the previous eight tournaments for several reasons. Not only is it the first competition to have dual hosts in Australia and New Zealand, it is also the first two be staged, at least partially, outside of Asia, North America and Europe, as New Zealand is part of the Oceania federation.

Most significantly, it is the first tournament to feature 32 teams, bringing the number of competing teams involved up to the same level as the men’s World Cup, and making for a more competitive tournament. As in the men’s World Cup, there will be eight Groups of four teams, with the knock-out stages following and concluding in the final, held in Sydney on August 20.

The variation in relative soccer ability among the teams at this World Cup may be greater than that in the men’s tournament, but every World Cup brings its share of surprises and this year’s edition is likely to be no different, with an additional eight teams taking part.

Matildas Can Shine on Home Soil

Australia has made it past the Group stages of four straight World Cups and this time there is hope that, with home team advantage, the Matildas can go all the way to lift the trophy.

Coach Tony Gustavsson has been talking about his squad peaking in time for this tournament, and that certainly seems to be the case. Kyra Cooney-Cross and Katrina Gorry have formed an impressive duo in midfield while up front, Sam Kerr continues to be one of the stand-out players in women’s soccer. Australia has one of the strongest squads in the tournament, has shown it can beat the best and looks a good value pick for the World Cup

Canada Can Go Far

Canada reached the Round of 16 at the last World Cup, but there is optimism this time around that it can do better and perhaps even go as far as the last four.

Jessie Fleming, the Chelsea star, is at the heart of the team, but there are several other high-quality players around her, including rising star Julia Grosso, who has been in top form for Juventus, and the team is built around a strong defense, which makes Canada a tough opponent for any rival.

The problem for Canada is a relatively tough draw that could see it take on England in the Round of 16, although it is not always a good idea to make predictions based on the form book at a World Cup. In any case, this team’s credentials suggest that it would have a chance against the best teams in the world, following the famous Olympic Gold medal performance in Tokyo.

You can get odds of +3000 on Canada winning the tournament, but if you’d prefer to play it safer, wagering on it to reach the final looks worth a shot.

Pick Colombia for the Final Four

Colombia has not made much of an impact on the World Cup thus far, but that could change in 2023 and this team is capable of going further than the 2015 squad which reached the Round of 16.

The team has its vulnerabilities and conceded five against Italy, but its strength is undoubtedly in attack and on its day, Colombia can beat any rival.

That forward firepower is provided by a trio of stars. Record goalscorer Catalina Usme is always reliable and she is supported by one of world soccer’s most in-form players in Mayra Ramirez, who had an excellent season in domestic football with Levante.

It is the third member of the attacking trio, however, who will be most keenly watched this year. Linda Caciedo was named as Player of the Tournament at the Copa America last year, when Colombia reached the final against Brazil, and is expected to shine in Australia and New Zealand. She can help Colombia to reach the last four.
