Twelve of the top teams will meet in Malaysia for ESL One Malaysia 2022. The tournament marks the third visit to the Genting Highlands and first since 2018. The prize pool for this year’s event is $400,000.
Two groups of six teams will start the Group Stage, which runs from Tuesday, August 23 through Thursday, August 25. During the Group Stage, the teams play single round-robin best-of-two matchups. The top two teams then move to the upper bracket for the Playoffs, while the teams who place third and fourth in the Group Stage advance to the lower bracket.
The eight-team Playoff Stage kicks off on Friday, August 25. The Playoffs have a double-elimination format and the matchups are best-of-three. The Grand Final, which takes place on Sunday, August 28, is best-of-five.

Aster
Aster were a longshot to win the Arlington Major, but the Chinese squad managed to finish in third place behind Spirit and PSG.LGD. Neither of those teams will be in Malaysia and with their strong showing in Arlington, Aster has to be looked at as one of the favorites to win.
Over the past 20 matches, Aster, who is in Group A, has only three losses — two to Spirit and one to PSG.LGD.
OG
The favorite to come out of Group B in Malaysia is OG, who ended up in fourth place in Arlington. OG were the defending Arlington champions. The European club was eliminated by Aster, so there’s little doubt that they have their eyes on getting even with them in Malaysia.
OG will be without team captain, Mikhail “Misha” Agatov. With that, the club will look to Evgenii “Chuvash” Makarov to take his place. However, that is not an unfamiliar situation for the team, who has been without “Misha” in Stockholm and Arlington heading into Malaysia.
Secret
Secret could play spoiler in Malaysia. The team has recently brought on Roman “Resolut1on” Fomynok, and that could help them. At the very least it will shake things up for the European club and give their opponents something to think about. Secret is in Group A along with the favored Aster.

With their performance in Arlington and the fact that the two teams who have recent wins over them are not in this tournament, it looks like Aster is the team to beat in Malaysia.
