Before you know it, the Masters will be here and the 2023 major season will be officially underway. We wanted to preview the majors ahead with futures bets — not necessarily on who wins what tournament, but more general picks on all four tourneys. To see what we’re talking about (and make some money down the line), read this right away!
Golfer To Win A Major In 2023
Alright, here’s a fun bet available at golf’s most-used betting sites. The point of this futures wager is simple: pick a player that will win a major — any of the four, it doesn’t matter which. Below you’ll find the players most favored to take at least one major title:
Player | ![]() |
|
Rory McIlroy | +200 | +200 |
Jon Rahm | +275 | +275 |
Cameron Smith | +300 | +300 |
Justin Thomas | +300 | +300 |
Scottie Scheffler | +300 | +300 |
Will Zalatoris | +350 | +350 |
Jordan Spieth | +450 | +450 |
Matthew Fitzpatrick | +450 | +450 |
Dustin Johnson | +450 | +450 |
Xander Schauffele | +500 | +500 |
For this wager, we’re going to be putting money on two different players. The first bet is on Rory McIlroy, who is still stuck at four for his career. But oh was he close to getting five on multiple occasions in 2022. Most memorable, he made an incredible run on Sunday at The Masters but it was too little too late.
The major event to circle for McIlroy is the Open Championship. It’s being played at the Royal Liverpool Golf Club, which has special significance to McIlroy. That’s where he won the 2014 event. Not only that, but the outing was pure dominance from McIlroy as he led wire-to-wire — only the sixth player to do so in the event’s 150-year history.
The other player we’re putting money on is Schauffele. The golfer had hot and cold in 2022, but mostly hot. After missing the cut at The Masters, he took three wins in the span of seven PGA tournaments. Still, his lack of major success — he was never in strong contention for any of the four — was a blemish on an otherwise strong 2022 campaign.
We’re betting that’s not the case in 2023. The Masters and US Open are possible spots for Schauffele to win his first-ever major. Yes, he missed the cut at Augusta last year, but he also has second and third-place finishes there since 2019. As for the US Open, he’s never finished worse than 14th in six career starts. All signs point to Schauffele finally getting over the hump, and sooner rather than later hence this pick.
LIV Players Win A Major Betting Pick
The creation of LIV Golf threw the sport into a tailspin last year. The PGA is still dealing with the aftereffects of that, however, many LIV players will in fact be allowed to compete at major tournaments in 2023. The Masters outright said so with 16 LIV players currently being qualified to compete. The other tourneys are the same so long as the LIV players meet the qualifying criteria. There’s a yes-no bet available on whether a LIV player wins a major. Here are your two betting options:
Outcome | ![]() |
|
Yes | -250 | -250 |
No | +160 | +160 |
LIV isn’t low on name-level players. The likes of Phil Mickelson, Bryson DeChambeau, and Brooks Koepka come to mind. However, if there’s LIV talent that has the best chance at winning a major, it’s Dustin Johnson or Cam Smith. Those two are world-beaters and far from has-beens like many of the LIV crop.
Johnson has a real shot at winning the green jacket in April. He’s already done so once, winning the 2020 Masters. The Augusta National course has also given him three additional top-6 finishes. Given the drama of what’s happened, we’d think Johnson would be extra motivated to stick it to the PGA, which is effectively trying to blackball him and his fellow LIV companions. All things considered, yes is the bet to make here.
Tiger Woods To Make All 4 Cuts
You can also bet on individual players to make the cut at ALL four majors. But honestly, we’re concerned with one name and one name only on that betting field — Tiger. As seen in the betting lines below, oddsmakers strongly believe Woods will NOT make the cut each time out in 2022:
Player | ![]() |
|
Tiger Woods | +600 | +600 |
Look, this is a complete flyer bet but we just couldn’t help ourselves. Woods is on the record saying he’s playing majors and a few other select events in 2023. However, whether his battered and bruised 47-year-old body actually allows him to do so is an entirely different question.
But to us, the risk is worth the reward here. We mean, Woods is +800 here. That means you don’t have to bet that much to get an insane return. Why not throw a little money Tiger’s way? Seeing how Woods fared early on at the 2022 Masters gives us hope that Tiger’s still got it.
