Wait, was the Pro Bowl ever great? For a number of years now, the NFL has been trying to inject some excitement into the annual touch-football all-star game. The solution may not lie within the actual game. Every player is wary of putting himself in harm’s way, and there are even a number of rules in place to prevent potential injuries. It’s never going to resemble real football.
There is hope, though, and the league is on the right track! The best thing the NFL has done for the Pro Bowl lately is bring back the skills competition.
Of course, if you’re like me, you need your Sunday football fix and will tune into the over-hyped game anyways (Jan. 29, 8:00 PM ET). If so, I present you with some props to spruce the game up a little, and hopefully make you forget that Alex Smith is leading the charge for the AFC.
Pro Bowl Props
MVP Odds:
Kirk Cousins: 12/1
Odell Beckham Jr.: 12/1
Von Miller: 14/1
Drew Brees: 15/1
Mike Evans: 15/1
Field: 1/3
As long as you’re not an offensive linemen, you have a legitimate chance to win the “honor.”
Odds to lead the game in passing yards:
Kirk Cousins: 3/1
Drew Brees: 7/2
Andy Dalton: 4/1
Field: 2/1
I know it’s the Pro Bowl, but do you really think Andy Reid will want Alex Smith to realize how sweet it is taking shots down the field?
Odds a pass is thrown by a non-QB: 1/4
Dez to Dak?
Odds a team rushes for more than 100 yards: 3/2
It didn’t happen last year, and I don’t see Jason Garrett working his rookie running back.
Odds Ezekiel Elliott hurdles a defender: 4/5
You know he’s going to try, but whether he’s successful is another story.
Odds Odell Beckham Jr. makes a one-handed grab: 1/3
Odds a FG or XP is missed: 5/1
Odds a punter/kicker picks up a first-down: 7/1
No way Matt Prater is running for one, but Justin Tucker thinks he can do anything. You can bet every punter remembers this, too.
Odds a non-offensive player scores a TD: 7/3
There’s no doubt Michael Bennett has been lobbying for some offensive snaps.
Odds on a defensive/special teams TD: 1/1
If there’s a turnover, watch for the schoolyard bullsh!t.
Odds we’ll get a Gruden’s Grinder: 1/3
And Sean McDonough will amuse him and play-along.
Over/under longest scoring play: 60.5 yards
Over/under most yards lost on a play: 20.5 yards
Over/under interceptions thrown: 3.5
It’s safe to mark Big Ben down for two, right?
Over/under total sacks: 1.5
I know you have Khalil Mack and Von Miller on the same team, but you’re not allowed to blitz.
Over/under mentions of the Super Bowl: 3.5
Over/under mentions of Hawaii: 1.5
Wait, where’s the Pro Bowl again?
