- The Kansas City Chiefs (4-2) are 3-point road favorites over the San Francisco 49ers (3-3)
- DeMeco Ryan’s Niners defense was missing 11 starters in Sunday’s loss to Atlanta
- The Week 7 game on FOX will kick off from Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara on Sunday, October 23 at 4:25pm ET
The Chiefs and 49ers will square off for the first time since Super Bowl 54. Still looking to recapture that same championship form, Kansas City lost to Buffalo at home in Week 6 to fall to 4-2. The 3-3 Niners are also coming off a loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.

Mahomes faces beat up Niners D
Patrick Mahomes threw an ugly, game-ending interception in the final minute of Sunday’s 24-20 defeat to the Bills. He also threw a pick on the opening drive but was otherwise pretty sharp, throwing for 338 yards and two touchdowns in a game where he was under constant pressure.
The 27-year-old could catch a break in Week 7 if San Francisco is still missing all of it’s defensive stars. Without Nick Bosa, Arik Armstead, Javon Kinlaw and Emmanuel Moseley in Week 6, DeMeco Ryans’ unit gave up a season-high 28 points to a Falcons offense that was ranked 25th in the NFL coming into Sunday.

Jimmy G can’t throw deep
According to Nex Gen stats, Jimmy Garoppolo completed just 4 of 11 passes for 72 yards with two interceptions on throws of 10-plus air yards in Sunday’s loss to Atlanta. You may also remember him missing a wide-open Emmanuel Sanders in Super Bowl 54 which would have given the Niners the lead with under two minutes to play.
The 30-year-old has been fairly solid since stepping in for the injured Trey Lance, but Kyle Shanahan remains limited on what he can do on offense.
49ers vs Chiefs
The 49ers are 3-point home underdogs and the game total is at 48.5 points. It’s difficult to bet either number without having a clearer picture of who will be suiting up on Sunday.
San Francisco’s defense was missing 11 of 22 starters in the Week 6 loss to Atlanta. While DeMeco Ryans has proved himself to be a master strategist since taking over for Robert Saleh as defensive coordinator in 2021, he’ll at the very least need Nick Bosa to return to have any chance at stopping Mahomes. Before missing Sunday’s game, the Defensive Player of the Year frontrunner was tied for the league lead in sacks (6) while pacing the NFL in pressures (31) and QB hits (16).

San Francisco returns home following a two-game road trip. While defensive injuries will ultimately determine their fate, the Niners should bring a much stronger effort in Week 7 than they did against the Falcons. Meanwhile, Mahomes and the Chiefs will have to refocus and re-energize after losing the NFL’s biggest game of the year to their AFC rivals in Buffalo. A task that’s ever harder while making the long trek out to the Bay Area.
We’ll take the Chiefs in a hard-fought game that falls UNDER the total.
Final Score Prediction: Chiefs 27, 49ers 20
