Thursday Night Football isn’t just a battle between ferocious jungle cats — Bengals vs. Jaguars — it’s a matchup between two of the most prolific passers in recent college football history in Joe Burrow and Trevor Lawrence.
When the No. 1 overall picks of the 2020 NFL Draft and 2021 NFL Draft last met, Burrow’s LSU Tigers defeated Lawrence’s Clemson Tigers in the 2020 College Football Playoff national championship game.

Bengals vs Jaguars
Jacksonville is a 7.5-point road underdog against the Bengals on Thursday night. While it’s rare to see Cincinnati as a touchdown-plus favorite against anyone, Joe Burrow and company sit atop the AFC North at 2-1 after crushing the Steelers 24-10 on Sunday to earn their first win in Pittsburgh since 2015.
Burrow was sacked four times and hit nine times in a Week 2 loss to the Bears where he threw three consecutive interceptions. This prompted worries the former Heisman Trophy winner would never return to form after tearing his ACL and MCL ten games into his rookie season, but he looks to “have his swag back” after throwing three touchdowns against Pittsburgh.

With concerns that Zac Taylor and the Bengals would ruin Burrow’s career quelled momentarily, we can start worrying if Urban Meyer is going to ruin Trevor Lawrence.
After throwing two picks in Jacksonville’s 31-19 loss to the Cardinals on Sunday, Lawrence joined Troy Aikman and Peyton Manning as the third quarterback selected first overall to throw at least two interceptions in each of his first three NFL starts. (At least he’s in good company.)
Thursday Night Football Best Bets
Bet the OVER on 45.5 points. While the Bengals and Jaguars have each hit the under twice in three weeks, Burrow, Joe Mixon, rookie Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins and Tyler Boyd should be able to score at will against a Jacksonville defense that has allowed an average of 30.3 points per game (fifth-worst in the NFL). Cincinnati’s defense only permitted 10 points against Pittsburgh in Week 3, but they’ll loosen up in garbage time of a blowout game.
Bengals to cover -7.5 spread. The Jags held a 19-10 lead late into the third quarter against the Cardinals on Sunday before putting together these final four drives: interception returned for a touchdown, three-and-out, fumble, fumble. Jacksonville has now committed nine turnovers in three games and could be extra sloppy on a short week against a Bengals defense that has four takeaways on the season.
Final Score Prediction: Bengals 30, Jacksonville 17.
