NFL Week 2 Preview & Betting Odds: Dolphins-Bills

The Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins will meet on Sunday (1 p.m. Eastern on CBS) in an early but important AFC East showdown.  Both teams won their opening games and want to build on that momentum.  More notably, division wins cannot be understated in the NFL.

Miami pounded the New England Patriots in the trenches, as Dolphins running back Knowshon Moreno ran for 134 yards and a touchdown.  The Dolphins also put constant pressure on Tom Brady.  Another big game for the offensive and defensive lines will likely bring another victory.

But Buffalo presents a different challenge from Brady and the Patriots with quarterback E.J. Manuel running the show.  Head coach Joe Philbin understands the importance of slowing Manuel down.

“It’s difficult whenever you play a quarterback that has the ability to run and throw,” Philbin said of Manuel. “We’ve just got to see if we can get a beat on him, get pressure on him.

“(We’ll) do the best we can to get him off rhythm and most importantly we have to stop the run to try to keep them one dimensional. So if we do all those things, it will be a better day for us. I’ll say that.”

Meanwhile, the Bills will again rely on their stout defense, which caused 3 turnovers against the Chicago Bears.  In addition to making big plays, the Bills will also need to contain the Dolphins’ improved run game.

On offense, Buffalo’s ground game has multiple weapons in Manuel, C.J. Spiller, Anthony Dixon and Fred Jackson.  It will be imperative to get the run going in order to keep the Dolphins off balance and create some big plays off of play action.

With the game being played in Buffalo, the Bills are currently a slim favorite at -1.  The over/under is at 44.5.
