New York Giants at Philadelphia Eagles (-2.5, 50 o/u)
The Giants and Eagles are set to do battle tonight on Sunday Night Football. New York and Philadelphia both picked up wins last week, but likely feel very different about their performances. Eli Manning and the Giants picked up a quality home win against the Falcons. For the second week in a row, the offense was firing on all cylinders, and Manning finally looks like he’s mastered Ben McAdoo’s new system.
The run game has started to pick up steam, as well. After finishing 29th in the league in rushing last year with a meagre 83.3 yards per game, the Giants are posting 121 yards per game this year. Look for Rashad Jennings to share carries with rookie Andre Williams tonight.
The Eagles, on the other hand, narrowly escaped with a 34-28 win over the St. Louis Rams. On paper, that doesn’t look concerning. However, the Eagles almost let a huge lead slip away to rookie quarterback Austin Davis. That came one week after the Eagles’ offense looked futile against San Francisco. In sum, there is cause for concern in Philadelphia despite the Eagles’ 4-1 record.
Chip Kelly will look to get the ground game going against the Giants. Last year’s leading rusher Lesean McCoy has been held in check for several weeks in a row. After averaging 160 rushing yards per game last year, the Eagles are only mustering 98 on the ground through five games. The lack of a rushing game is hampering QB Nick Foles, as well. The Arizona alum is completing just 59% of his passes.
The Giants need a win to keep pace in the NFC East. Couple that with their recent momentum and taking the Giants and the points looks like the better play.
