St. Helens’ dynasty
St. Helens (+200) is the reigning Super League and World Club Challenge champions. In 2022, the Saints became the first club in league history to win four-consecutive titles, but their path will be more difficult this season. Last year, their first-place finish earned them a bye to the semi-finals. But, today, Paul Wellens’ side is barely hanging on to a playoff spot in sixth.
Still one the world’s best wingers, Tommy Makinson scored four tries for a Magic Weekend record 28 points against Huddersfield. He believes his team will play with more energy down the stretch. After all, St. Helens’ rough start to the campaign can be excused as they were coming off a World Cup and trip to Australia.

Wigan’s always a contender
Wigan (+300) has traditionally been St. Helen’s biggest rival. The Warriors won their 20th Challenge Cup in 2022, but suffered an upset-loss to Leeds (+2500) in last year’s Super League semifinal. While the franchise has five Championship Grand Finals under their belt, they haven’t won the title since 2018.
Like the Saints, Wigan has been without a handful of star players to this point in the season. With many of their injured starters readying for a return, they could be a force in the playoffs.
Top two teams in the standings
Warrington (+400) and the Catalans Dragons (+500) are the only two teams in the Super League with more than ten victories. The Wolves last reached the Grand Final in 2018 when they lost to Wigan. Last year, they missed the playoffs after being bounced in the quarter-finals in both 2020 and 2021.
Catalans was upset by Leeds in the first week of the postseason last year. In 2021, they won League Leaders’ Shield for the first time before an excruciating 12-10 loss in the finals to St. Helens.

Long odds for Leigh and Salford
Leigh (+1600) and Salford (+2000) are both available at long odds despite holding down playoff spots with 18 points a piece. Neither club has had much playoff success in recent years, but the Red Devils did push St. Helens to the limit in last season’s semifinal so anything is possible.
Best Bet
Catalans has gotten oh so close to a grand final championship in recent years. After demolishing Wigan 46-22 on Magic Weekend, this might be the season the Dragons finally break through.
